Our stays in Sintra and now Cascais have proven that the U.S. expectation of "small European rooms" must exist be elsewhere.
Our room, 3, is on the ground floor, and it has enough room for 3 grown adults as well as room for yoga, for 6. The room reminds me of an auntie's spare bedroom she never uses. Sure it needs attention, perhaps a brush-up, but really it's very clean and super spacious. If we were staying here for 2 months, we'd probably volunteer to paint and purchase curtains. Alas, we are tourists, and for 50 Euros a night for a large private space that includes a hot-water kettle in the bedroom, a very fine bathroom, free wifi, and breakfast (3 choices for eggs that made to request, bread, ham, cheese, other meat-like products, yogurt, fruit, water that looks like juice, teas, machine-coffee), we believe we found a great place!
There is a chapel in the building that you'll have to search for. It is just down the hall in the very European breakfast room. If we were here for two months, we would volunteer to dust, but as we are tourists...
Overall, the hotel's friendly staff, free port wine to try, and great location prompted us to post while sitting in their breakfast room. I am sure there are other places with better views and fine service, but for historical charm that only a long-lost European auntie has, this hotel is fantastic.
