We have been coming to Cascais staying at the Vila gale for the past 10 years, but this was the first time in the winter. The hotel has been substantially updated, but has kept the kitchenettes in the suites which were a godsend to us when the kids were little. The hotel is 10min walk from the town centre but that suits us because the view is fantastic and you are right on the Atlantic - with a pedestrianised walk/cycle way all the way to guincho. we love the lighthouse shining out (but dare say this may not be everyone's taste) mThe staff are very helpfull and kid freindly. The large buffet breakfast keeps us going till late afternoon, has a short order cook and sparkling wine available for breakfast bucks fizz!!The rooms are large with sep sitting room/bedroom and kitchenette- very clean with lots of storage. One gripe (minor) is that we hate having to pay for the safe, but otherwise, great value and well located for sights. boca de inferno is 5 mins walk and 10 mins to casa de Guia has free bike hire- we cycled to guincho and back with lunch at one of the hotels overlooking the Atlantic. Sadly the fireworks for new year were cancelled due to austerity measures, but we had a greAt time nonetheless.
