“Excellent functional hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011 via mobile

We stayed for a week in September an were pleasantly surprised with the hotel. As others have said it is a little dated but nowhere near as bad as some reviews have said. Room was clean and bright with balcony overlooking pool and with sea view. Slightly disappointed that there was no fridge/minibar in the room so we couldnt keep water etc cold. Air conditioning in the hotel was good but not so great in our room. Breakfast was better than expected with a good selection of eggs, bacon, croissants, cereal, toast etc. However it was the same everyday. The pool area was pleasant although slightly noisy with a road close by but was generally fine. The hotel provided beach towels. Location was fine - not right in the heart of cascais but only 5 mins or so walk. Overall pleased.

“Really happy with hotel and staff”

Stayed in hotel in August 2011. We had a pool and sea view which was lovely. I became unwell when I was there and had to go to hospital. Reception staff were very helpful. Its a bit upsetting to become unwell on holiday but they really helped. They allowed my partner to bring items from the breakfast up to me such as yogurts etc as I couldn't go down. On our check-out day, we were leaving for the airport at 7.30pm which meant I would have had nowhere to rest from 12-7.30 - they allowed us to stay in our room until we were leaving. Dulce on reception in particular was lovely to us. The cleaning staff on the fifth floor were also really nice. The hotel itself is really relaxing. I would say very suitable for 30+ who want a very relaxing, no stress holiday.

Room Tip: Fifth floor - sea view

“A little gem”

We stayed at this hotel for a short break in july and couldn't fault anything about it.
Our room was lovely with a sea view , very clean and the maid service was excellent.
Our particular thanks must go to Dulcie Mendes, one of the hotel receptionists, who
was not only a mine of information but always very helpful and is a great credit to the
hotel.

We don't think that there is anything wrong with the hotel decor or service and is great
value for money.

Should we ever be in Cascais again we will definately stay here again.

“Everything we needed!”

Pleasantly surprised! The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. No ultra modern, but that added to the charm. The room was very clean & comfortable, with a good sized balcony with a view as a bonus! Free breakfast with a variety of choices was great. Pool was relaxing & never crowded. A quick 10 minute walk into town & free parking! I was very satisfied & will return!

“Salazar era hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2011

While appearing dated with it's dated 60's decor, Cidadela Hotel turned out to be a wonderfully relaxing and friendly hotel. We appreciated the upgrade to a very spacious double room. The staff were very helpful and attentive, while the hotel has a fabulous deep pool and garden area. After exploring Lisbon etc during the day, we loved coming back to this hotel to relax by the pool.
The location is good if you don't mind a short walk into Cascais. From Cascais we easily caught a train to Lisbon (40 minutes) or local bus to Sintra (bus 117) which the hotel staff told us about. While in Cascais itself there are many restaurants, beaches and nightlife. The only downsides to Hotel Cidadela were some dated plumping in the bathroom and the average breakfast. However, overall we were very happy at Hotel Cidadela.

Room Tip: All the hotels have balconies, but the higher rooms have good district views.
