“Peaceful high end modern hotel away from the hustle and bustle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

The spa is one of the nicest I've ever experienced.
The rooms are enormous, with plenty living space where you can spend time reading, getting ready or whatever takes your fancy. While from the outside, this hotel does look rather like a large office building, the benefit of this is the super spacious interior and rooms.
The food is delicious and although a bit pricey, is more competitive than other hotels of the same category.
We didn't get to enjoy any golfing whilst there but if you are into Golf, this is most definitely the place to be.
The location is quite isolated, and a car will be needed, however the benefit of this is that you are away from the hustle and bustle, with deserted (yet rocky and windy!) beaches near by. Perfectly located between Cascais and Sintra and a liesurely drive from Lisbon.

“Brilliant Design in a Gorgeous Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

I stayed here for 6 days on business, the company had exclusive use of the hotel and we were mostly impressed. Visually it looks like a corporate HQ and inside its huge lobby and lounge areas are flooded with light. There are wonderful views of the sea and its set into a beautiful area of sand dunes.
The public areas are all open plan and this includes the bar and the restaurant so it wont appeal to everyone as it can lack atmosphere. The meeting rooms are very minimalistic and cold almost like mini warehouses.

However the bedrooms are excellent, great beds (poor pillows) and plenty of space, all with privates terraces. The glass cubicle shower rooms and en suite wont be appreciated by all.
The food is generally of a very high standard indeed but the service can be a little slow. Staff are very polite and pleasant.

“Exudes sense of space and serenity”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

I stayed at the Oitavos as part of a 3-day company conference. We had exclusive use of the hotel for the entire duration, and hence benefitted from a high level of service and attention from its friendly staff. The hotel is very modern and sleek in its design and boasts wonderful views of the ocean, helped by the generous use of glass throughout the building.

My biggest surprise was no doubt the size of the room - even the lowest category is big enough to fit a family and has a balcony overlooking the ocean. The room had an open plan layout, with the sleeping and lounge areas separated from the shower and cloakroom by a wall in the middle of the room. The shower and toilet have glass doors. Hence this set-up would only befit a single person, a couple or close friends. I would be remiss not to mention the loo's high-tech, state-of-the art WC, which has a built-in shower and dryer! It bowled me over and provided for amusing discussion at the dinner table. I felt utterly spoiled having the whole place to myself.

The generous use of space and open layout provides a wonderful sense of tranquility and serenity, which pervades throughout the hotel. The bar and restaurant are bright and airy offering a good selection of fresh produce and local delicacies. The spa and pool areas, all with glass windows, provide unspoiled views of the dunes and the ocean. The only exception was the gym, which was accessed via a door from the spa and was rather small, dark (curtains hindering outside view) and quite enclosed. My company organised a team building exercise which included the choice of cycling or running along the coast or playing golf. I opted to join the cycling team and thoroughly benefitted from the scenic coastal views.

The Oitavos suited the purpose of this particular business trip, which was to provide a relaxing atmosphere for colleagues travelling from around the world to network and discuss future plans. However, given its rather remote location from the airport (a taxi ride costs Euro 60) and limited access to local amenities, I would consider the Oitavos best suited for a long weekend getaway or in combination with visits to other parts of the coast if going on a private trip.
