The Pousada has a great environment in architectural terms! Well designed with a huge living area that enchanted us immediately! The room has good areas and maintain good architecture and good design in furniture! We found a bathroom with cleaning problems! This was our first disappointment!
After visit the city of Viseu we decided to return to the Pousada for dinner there! The dinner was very pleasant, the food was delicious, and the staff very helpful! We recommend it!
And now the big problem with this Pousada: Sleeping was almost impossible!Whenever someone in another room used the bathroom, we wake up with the sound of "water" running! And this happened several times to our despair! How this can happen after reconstruction work in this building? How is it possible not to have solved the issue of sewage so that customers do not wake up when they pass? How can this happen in a Pousada de Portugal?
After a bad night a poor breakfast!
When we checked out we made sure to express our disappointment to the receptionist who reacted as if it were normal in this Pousada the sounds of sewage! Based on her attitude we decided to write our complaints in a document provided by the Pousadas de Portugal! We also complain about the cleaning problems that we find in the bathroom!
It was an internal document of the Pousadas de Portugal! We asked how long it would take to consider our complaint and the receptionist explained that this document had to be sent to the central and that we would have an answer soon! This was on January 16, 2011 and so far we have not had any reaction to our complaint! We believe that the concept of Pousadas de Portugal deserves more than this!

This pousada is probably the best hotel we have stayed in. Situated overlooking old Viseu, it is perfectly placed. Beautifully converted, this building retains the elegance of former years. The rooms are big, cleverly designed and well finished.
The breakfast selection is huge and varied and offers outstanding food. We didn't eat in the restaurant, but did have the buffet, which at its fixed price of 19 Euros each, is good value for money. The food is local and might not be to everybody's taste, but the salad and dessert selection is impressive. Wine inexpensive and of excellent quality.
The staff, particularly the girls on reception, are of the highest quality...friendly, helpful, always cheerful and ever eager to answer questions.
Great hotel and a great place to relax....

Well , it was a good stay, almost perfect if it weren't some issues. Its located in the center of Viseu near the historic places. The staff was great and very helpful. The building is in my opinion beautiful.The design, architecture , the enviroment, the silence, the background music , everything was very peaceful.Just what we needed. The room was good, spacious, the Tv had 70 good channels .The temperature of the room was easy to control with the A/C.
The pool area in my opinion was good although the sun disappears at 16:00 in the summer and all you got is shadow. But when is 30º C outside, this was not a problem.We loved the pool area and the pool.
The restaurant was good but in my opinion expensive for the quality.
The main sitting room/bar was gorgeous, cozy, comfortable, and the background music was very relaxing.Congrats to the architect because the building is beautiful .
The Breakfast was also good but with some not positive issues in our experience.
The orange juice was not good at all, and when all was going great i didnt like the fact that in our last day i wanted like always some scramble eggs and there were any..I asked and the lady told me that it wouldn't be any...!? I thing we were the first in that day having breakfast so why the lack of eggs? In the previous day i had scramble eggs normally .Very strange indeed, since i saw some english guests in the hotel and eggs its a must for them. I had a good impression of everything until that moment....
Another negative thing was the bed.Wasn't to comfortable in my opinion , because it was to hard .But thats a personal taste off course. Other thing was the soundproof of the room that it was not very good.In the night we had no problems but in the morning we heard the cleaners in the room next door.

In conclusion , dispite some negative things, in overall the hotel was very good.We rested and that was what we needed . Looking forward to returning.

The pousada in Viseu is hard to find, there are very little signs in the town, indicating the location of this hotel, an ancient hospital.
Once you are there, the pousada strikes you by his severe, but beautiful architecture.
The rooms are very spacious. So is the whole interior of the hotel.
Only very few employees have sufficient command of the english language, especially in the restaurant.
The pool is modern and stylish.
The view is not very nice, too many old and ruinous buildings are surrounding the hotel.
