“Sorry, but never again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2011

This is very nice, modern hotel in the beach front. I had already been there without any problem. Not this time, but given that we all have ou personal quirks, I'll be specific.

When we checked in nobody told us that there were repairs ongoing in the hotel. After several hundred kilometers, you don't look much around either, you feel happy enough to see the hotel's door. The result is that I was unable to have some rest at arrival.

I know this is a quirk of mine, but I never give my credit card details just like that. And that's what they want when you check in. I declined and prefered to pay two nights in advance. Fine so far.

When I went for a coffee, and asked to put it in the room's account, they said they couldn't, because I had already paid. My account was closed, and either I paid at once cash, or had to go back to the reception and give my credit card details. this is utterly unusual. They also stated that all Accor hotels were doing it this way -- and do I care.

It was quite dumber than that, but I'll spare you the details. At that point I was fuming and we left; of course they pocketed one night without even providing it.

It's a pity, as it's a very decent hotel. Unfortunately, they set my mind on a negative mood at once, not only with the credit card thing, but also charging separately 9 euros for every breakfast and the such, which would add almost 20 euros a day to the stated cost (69 euros). The hotel isn't worth 90 euros a night all accounted for.

I understand that the town has a casino and they have problems with people who get out without paying. That hasn't been obviously my case ever, and I do not accept been treated like a crook.

I also don't like being treated for dumb, as in "all hotels require your credit card". That's false, of course. Don't try to fool me.

As usual, the personel was embarassed having to enact this sort of agressive managerial decisions.

“Excellent Location & Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2010

My husband & I stayed here earlier this week. We were driving down the coast from Porto & decided to stop at Fig da Foz. We did not have reservations which did not seem to be a problem in October and received a good rate. It was a good size room in an older style hotel which has been updated with new carpeting, bedding and window treatments. We had a lovely view of the beach from our balcony . It was off-season so very quiet in the hotel and in the town. While the floor we were on & rooms are non-smoking our neighbour was smoking as the smell of smoke was evident in the hallway & our room for a bit (likely drifting in from the balcony). Free parking in front of the hotel. Friendly staff. Overall we were quite happy with our stay.

“Excellent location, very well decorated”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2010

This hotel is obviously the best choice, for it is very well located in front of the beach, with a marvellous view over the sea. Be sure to chose a room with sea view, it may a little bit more expensive, but I'm sure it's worth it.
Very nice room, with a feeling of luxury to it.
Strongly reccomend it!

“Needs refreshing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2009

First time in Portugal. There to see daughter dance in Casino Show, so the hotel is ideally placed for that. On sea front so an ocean view is a must have. Fronted by a busy road so noisy most of the time. Bedrooms need updating, looking rather tired, stain on carpet and paintwork needs refreshing. Foyer and public areas look like they have been done so bedrooms a bit of a let down. Rooms not large. Trouble with lifts when we were there. Breakfast good with lots of selection. No tea/coffee making in room. Had to ask for more hangers, 4 in wardrobe! Had to use room service or collect our own from bar area. Season just starting - stayed from 28/6-5/7. Resort filled up as the week went on. Very noisy all night disco in venue down from hotel on Saturday night. Had to shut balcony door or wouldn't have got a wink of sleep! Still going strong when we left at 7am to travel home. We had no smoking room, in no smoking area of hotel, but people still smoked on their balconies. In summary, the view was worth the compromise of the noise and a week was long enough.
