Reception staff friendly and helpful and a reasonable command of the English language.
Compact well designed bedroom with a small bathroom and a smelly bidet drain. They also offered both shampoo and shower gel. Dinner was served every night as a buffet for E16.50 where you helped yourself to the array of food laid out, although it was also possible to order off the a la carte, and in fact if you only wanted two courses, the latter was the cheaper option. Breakfast was varied and good, although once again, hot food was left in the tureens and therefore was not hot.
The swimming pool, which we thought was a part of the hotel, is really separate and there is a charge of E8 per person to use the facilities, which includes an indoor pool and a spa area. The pool area was obviously cleaned daily. However there were only about twenty sun loungers and only about six cushions for them. There were a few others left lying around but these were filthy or broken, and over the three days we were there, the disreputable ones disappeared. The pool area was in a very attractive landscaped garden, well designed by rocks and shrubs to hide the fact that the road was virtually on top of you – not that healthy with car fumes! Unfortunately few all day sun-spots, so you needed to move round the area if you wished to sunbathe.
Covilha is a town on a hill and it also seems to have its fair share of roundabouts! The hotel is well situated being on the outskirts as you are driving in from the south on the autoroute. There is quite a lot of free parking spaces, but as the buffet dinner is open to non residents, these spaces fill up at night, and while we were there, the buffet dinner was well patronised, particularly on the Saturday night..
