Coimbra is a beautiful city in the center of Portugal, very known by its old University, and the only truly portuguese "students town". Very recently I've spent 1 night there, at the Ibis hotel, and would like to share with everybody this experience. The hotel is very well located, nearby the center and close to the Mondego river. One should known that almost all the nice spots to visit in Coimbra are located nearby the center, at walk distance, although to reach the University one has to climb a bit!
Anyhow the hotel is in very good conditions, it has an undergound parking garage (you must pay for it...but is worthwhile!), a restaurant (unfortunately I did not use it, so I can't rate it) and free internet.
In Coimbra you should visit the University (specially its Library - a must!), the "Santa Cruz" Church, its nice gardens and the "Santa Clara" Monastery at the other side of the river. One must also to try to attend a concert of Coimbra's typical music ("Fado de Coimbra") - I recommend the "Fado ao Centro" (everyday at 18:00, 10€/pax). For a typical and cheap meal, I recommend the restaurant "Zé Manel dos Ossos", located at the "Beco do Poço".
If you have more time, try to visit the old roman ruins of Conímbriga, located at Condeixa-a-Velha (at south of Coimbra, 20 minutes drive from the hotel). Enjoy it!
