I stayed in this hotel for 6 days in July 2011. The hotel is very clean very quiet and not very far from the center of the city. In any case if you are on this island you don't want to spend too much time visiting Ponta Delgada. It is better to rent a car and visit some great places like Lagoa de Fogo and Sete Cidades. The room was great with nice view of the city. Overall I was pleased with the services. The restaurant is pretty good and the breakfast very rich.There are two things that they can impove. One: It suppose to have room service, in fact they have a menu in the room. When I called I never got answer. I then called the reception and they told me that they will call me back. I am still waiting! The second: They have a bussines room with 2 computers for checking your email, which is very convenient. But the computers they have there are prehistoric. They should be in a Museum. When you try to download something they crush!

Stayed here for a week with another two couples. Try to get a room on 5th or 6th floor for a view of the sea and countryside. We were on second floor and you get a view of other buildings, including a local authority housing estate, complete with graffiti. Rooms very tidy and clean with comfortable, but firm mattresses on beds. TV has loads of American channels and English language films. Free Wi-Fi available in vicinity of reception area. Staff polite, efficient and helpful. Although there are several mentions of this being a business hotel, most of the guests were holiday makers. Breakfast was varied and ample and they will cook you fresh eggs on request.
Hotel location is up a hill. It's 10 minutes brisk walk down to the start of the marina and 20 minutes to the town square/major shops. Add five minutes for walking back. Cabs fares to or from central Ponta Delgada are E5. Get the drivers number to call for a lift back.
Considering that this hotel was mainly occupied by holiday makers it let itself down very badly in two respects. First off was the bar terrace. This is currently about 12 metres off the ground with views of the surrounding ordinary buildings, with a couple of metal tables and chairs. This needs potted plants, bamboo screening, architectural lighting and so on for appeal. I'm sure people would then spend more time on the terrace and buy more beer!
Second was the pool. This is one of those half in, half outside pools. No problem with that, but boy could they do with a major landscaping project for the garden; it's just grass and a few bushes. There's no bar service in the garden, nor a phone link to the bar, so there's quite a trek to get it yourself. This hotel is really missing a trick here. The garden furniture needs replacing as some of it has perished in the sunshine.
This hotel really needs to decide what it is. At the moment it is neither a business hotel nor a leisure hotel. I did get the impression that money is tight, not just for the hotel, but also the whole island.
Loved the island, by the way! Went with Greenzone on two 9 hour tours, which were good value and incredibly interesting. Also went whale watching, which was OK. Had good meals in all the restaurants, but limited cuisine. They don't do lamb! I would go again and stay in same hotel if pushed.

I disagree that there are business hotels on the Azores as basically Tourism seems to be the only business here on the Azores Islands - Even the location of the hotel could make you believe it's for business travellers it isn't: the surroundings are residential blocks with many banks, offices etc.) No restaurants nearby -for dinner you need to walk down the road to old town Pta. Delgada

This former Holiday Inn looks better outside - in fact it's a quite dated soulless hotel for package tourists: majority of guests are from Finland and Germany who have booked 1 or 2 weeks Azores in a B&B (or half board) package.

The Pool area is quite average and very much dated (erroded metal parts etc.), a "Spa" totaly missing, Sauna is basically next to the pool (no hidden area for textile free Sauna) and the Jacuzzi was not really a hot tub.
Seems that their rates (usually double for around 65-75 EUR with BF etc.) don't allow them to invest anymore, the lobby and aisles are missing some flowers or other interior design. The rooms are decent, quite clean (some spots on the carpet) but AC could be a callenge during hot days.

The only highlight was the breakfast which was outstanding for Azores and Portugal in choices and quality (except the coffee).

The free internet in the room is with wired only. Parking outside is free!

Not sure if I want to recommend this place even for 65 EUR for the double, better take one of the "atmosphere" hotels in the old town (e.g. Colegio, Talisman, etc.) and may 75-100 instead!

Had an excellent first trip to Sao Miguel and The Lince is a great place to stay. We booked the trip through hotels.com and got an outstanding rate. The staff helped us book our local car rental and even noted on the maps the best trips to take on the island. They had a quirky system for lighting which may change as they took over the hotel less than 2 years ago (it used to be a holiday inn - if you see other sites linking to the holiday inn ponte delgada this is why) you must leave the ving card in a slot near the front door to activate the lights and a/c - as long as this system is in place I would recommend an extra room keycard just for that. The food is buffet style but fairly representative of local cuisine with a slight tailoring to whatever the main nationality of the tour group coming in that day is. There is internet/wifi which is mitigated by the age of the PC's (Windows 2000) but it is free along with a gym/jacuzzi we didn't use. There is a garage to park your rental car which was quite easy as well. On future trips to the island I will always look to book here first.
