Although it looks a litle tired on the outside this hotel is a real jem inside. It is a 1930's hotel preserved in its essence but with modern conveniences added. You expect Poirot to appear around every corner! The restaurent is good and convenient but if you want cheaper options there are plenty close by in the town. The real advantage is that the hotel is in a botanical garden in which you can wander at your leisure, and you have free access to the garden's thermal spa swimming pool. Amazingly relaxing after a hard day's exploring the island. We would definitely go there again.

We stayed at this comfortable, friendly hotel for 3 nights. The rooms with balconies overlook the Botanic Gardens and there is free entry for guests. The rooms are spacious and clean.
The gardens are wonderful but remember to wear dark swimwear in the mineral thermal pool or you will dye it orange -it does come out!
At the end of July, the festival to St Anna ensures the streeets covered in flower petals and religious processions parade during the evenings as well as the noisiest fireworks I've ever heard!
The staff are informative and give guidance on events and walks - Furnass Lake is a great walk (11km).
Breakfast is varied and plentiful - it filled us up until late afternoon.
Don't miss the corn on the cob cooked in natural thermal pools, 3 Bicas pizza (huge) and meat cooked in pots aroound the lake!

Awful room...No AC...Dogs barking outside all night...Showers boiling hot...beds about 20 years outdated...way overpriced.
All fire escapes and exits locked...not sure why.
Breakfast was acceptable and gardens nice however we never felt welcome during our 2 night stay.
Surprise charge at the end...2 Euro for ice we requested at the bar.
None of the employees appeared to like their job.
Needs new management.

Horrible standard. I think this hotel once upon a time have been a nice place, but now it's just horrible. It really needs a serious facelift both inside and out.
Me and my fiancey were very disapointed with our stay and called our travel-agancy the first day to se if we could switch hotel immediately. The other swedish couple that also stayed there, moved to another hotel aswell right away.

There were stains of moist and mold everywere. The carpets were stained and busted and the beds also. The food was just terrible at the hotelrestaurant, and also VERY expensive.

There were cats and dogs outside of the room that did not seem well. They wanted to come in to the room and we couldn't even open our door because of this. They were dirty and hurt and obviusly hungry. :(

We rented bikes at the hotel to get around Furnas, and they were broken. We had to fix the bikes ourselves but we still had to pay full price.

I would never in a lifetime recommend this hotel to anyone. I'm sorry to say that this was a very poor beginning of a our very much wished-for vacation.
