“A nice experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

My husband and I had three nights and days at the nice hotel, and it was a nice experience.. We had been on Lajes de Pico before (on the other side of the Island) looking at whales etc, and now we needed something else to explore. When you live at this hotel, you need a rented car or use of taxi. Both are possible. You are of course more free with a car. The taxi takes about 7 - 9 euros for a drive from Madalena the town to the hotel or vice versa.. For lunch and dinner you need the taxi or the car.

The hotel is in one of the "corner" of the Unesco culture heritage, the wineyards set in the middle of the lava and the set stones around each plant. Really something to see and respect as a heritage "in use".. You can walk to the town along the road that is closest to the sea, but it take about 1 hour or more.

Its about 8 km from the center of the town, along the cost. The other island Faial, is 6 km on the other side of the water. The view is beautiful daytime but also in night, when the light from Faial have reflexes at the water, as well as the stars shines similarly in the sky.

I found the hotel very beautiful, and we enjoyed to stay there. Everything is thought about, the forms, the colours, the shapes.. The first two days the breakfast, was as they usually are in the south.. too sweet for us from the north. We do not like cakes in the morning, and not even chocholate.. We like eggs, ham, and more salty things.. And we asked for eggs and we got it the third morning. - Thanks! The breakfast area was nice created, the garden as well as on under roof if you like it better so.

The swimming we took every morning and evening in the sea ( a natural pond with fresh water) and we also used the swimming pool from the hotel as well. The bathroom had a nice interior. And I enjoyed my warm baths as well.

The mattress was little hard for me, but they supported me the best way. If I should have emailed before that I NEED a soft bed, they should have arranged that. But as I understood - it is important to communicate the needs as well - before arrival.

Well - we recommend the hotel to people who like to have silence, privacy.. that need to rest with a book and the beautilful environment.

Louisa and her husband had done a very beautiful job with the ruins they bougth 15 years ago when they started the project of rebuiding this site.

When you choose that hotel, you pay half before and the rest at your stay. Phone there and tell you arrival time. We came little too early - but we could enjoy our first hour at the sittingroom, and we relaxed in the hanging mats and the soft sofas. There is a bar as well and my husband took his gin tonic and soon we got our room. It was two rooms and a bathroom and a corridor.

Thanks for your nice hospitality! We enjoyed also your dog, Frida.

The only thing we maybe missed, was the internetconnection inside of the hotelroom. We had our own laptop with us and of course it was possible to use the Wlan at the sitting room facility as well.. Important for us.

we will come back! And can therefore recommend it to other similarly visitors, that like silence, peace and nature around.

“Authentic Pico”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2011

I love small, boutique places to stay that are authentic to the region were we stay. You could not get more authentiic then this with all the modern ammenities. The room was beautiful with all the exposed stone and beams inside. Very comfortable and everything we needed but shampoo! I don't consider this an issue. The innkepers were very nice and quiet. They were there if you needed them. The grounds of the hotel were gorgeous with pool over looking the bay. Very quiet and peaceful stay which is what the azores is all about. Close to the best resteraunt on the island which is nice because there are no many choices. Would definitly recommend this establishment to anyone who wants to experience the true Pico experience,

“Marvellous surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2011

Pocinhobay is a "secret" small hotel in front of a natural swiming pool that have everything we wanted. Its calm, clean, "design decor", traditional materials (wood and basaltic stone) and great gardens. On top of that, the reception was very friendly, the breakfast unforgettable, and the beds and sheets extra comfortable.

It was a very good experience and we will be back in summer time.

Congratulations to Luisa for the great work done.

“5 star price one star service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2010

There are many beautiful places to stay in Pico. If you would like to experience the most arrogant of inn keepers - go for it - and they don't know how to work the invoice software - so don't expect a quality invoice. If you skip this haven here's what you are missing - 1) no toiletries in the bathroom 2) no protection from the rain once you step outside the rainfall coming out from the door 3) high prices with misguided cancellation rebates - and the BONUS - know it all innkeepers who will advise you on how to recover cancellation fees - and the are completely WRONG - and they send irate emails to your travel agent who booked your flight in the first place.

“Simply a Magical Place to Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2010

We recently had the pleasure of spending 10 nights at Pocinho Bay in July 2010 - and can't wait to come back to what is simple a special place.

For those looking for a quiet haven, with beautiful rooms, set in a wonderfully relaxing garden then we wouldn't hesitate recommending Pocinho Bay to anyone.

Located within the UNESCO World Heritage Zone of Pico Vineyard Landscape, Pocinho Bay is well-positioned for those who appreciate a peaceful, beautiful environment.

True, there is no restaurant at Pocinho Bay (and having one would undoubtedly detract from the restful atmosphere of the hotel), but a truly excellent restaurant (Ancourodoro) is only a 5-10 minute taxi ride away, or indeed a beautiful hour-long coastal walk.

Overall, a simply magical place to stay. We look forward to returning and seeing Luisa, Jose and their two dogs Mathilde and Freda again soon.
