We arrived in good time lady receptionist was very polite and helpfull.
Bar sol downstairs was quiet as to be expected for the end of season but very nice freindly bar staff.
Not to happy as to go for a drink the next week we were there as to find our fave bar man rudy had retured home for winter.
Local area fantastic allthough watch out for the gypsies trying to sell you dodgie hash and other goods.
Local food was great strongley advise vasco da gama snack bar in praia da rocha town center as the staff were very friendly and tastey food ater a good night out too.
Hotel appartment clean and tidy needs some acitectual improvement.
We had no ketal in the room as had to ask for it and my husband got an electric poke off the hobs as they dont work properly.
Swimmingpool great fun but not overly clean.
If you like nightclubbing make your way to the nicho nightclub in the town centre for party and fun intil early hours of the morning ie 8am.
Good cocktails at the sol bar with good super bock beer.

me and my girlfriend stayed at the solmonte in april for ten days. the hotel was exactly the same as when i stayed there in 1993 with my mates. very basic hotel but it's nice and quiet with big room's and in a great location on the main road at the back of the resort, the hotel also has a couple of quaint little bars by the pool. the resorts a cheap place for food and drink and the old town's not far away. an amazing beach, bernies bar very friendly and hopefully be back again one day.

Now where do I start with the Solmonte! Arrived late about 12.30 a.m.booked in to the Club de Arcos (named accomodation) to be greeted by a pleasant man who informed us that our Hotel was closed for the season and we were being moved to the sister hotel the Solmonte. On arrival at reception it was obviously the ugly sister as buttons in the reception shrugged his shoulders when we complained at the lack off notice. However we were tired so went up to our 5th floor apartment. First Impressions dated but liveable. We dumped our cases and went down to Tony's for a nightcap he was great and very welcoming. After our beer we went up to bed. The bed's were clean but uncomfortable to say the least and creaked everytime we turned. Got up next morning to find the missus scrubbing the bathroom and then the kettle. T.V. was hopeless, Two ring cooker blew up when you plugged it in, toilet seat fell off, sockets hanging off the walls, toilet brush had sh** on it, 24 sunloungers beside the pool of which 20 were broken ( I counted them) Towels and cleaned beds, apartment done once in 7 Days, although the girl receptionist was pleasant the guy with the glasses was not when complained about the above he shrugged his shoulders and said it was close of season. The lifts hmmm! Went down the nearby strip and within 10 min. were offered hash, cocaine as well as hooky fags. The resort was great though and never once did we have a bad meal. Found a wee bar next to Claire's that was a euro a pint and a good beer too and the guy was great, very friendly. We were there near the end of season so not a lot was happening but accomodation apart we had a great holiday.

Arrived back from a last minute cheeky week at the Solmonte at the beginning of Oct 2011. Me, my fiance, our son (age 2) and my brother, booked a 2 bedroom apartment. We arrived very late at about 1.30am being the last drop off after an 1 1/2 transfer. When we walked in to our apartment we had very mixed feelings! Firstly we noticed the size of the apartment, - it was massive - our bedrooms were very spacious with balconys, the bathroom living and dining area were also huge with another great big balcony looking over the pool - HOWEVER as the saying goes YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!! The decor was very dated - believe it was built 30years ago and it looks like it hadn't been touched since! The furniture was old with mis-matched cushions with rips and wear in them. The kitchen was another story, it looked like if you shut a cupboard too hard they would all fall down!! We had no Kettle, the microwave had 3 legs and wobbled and to top it all off the plug went red-hot if you used it! Only 2 fuzzy channels on the TV. We did however always have hot water and our towels changed regularly. Then there was the swimming pool area, on our 2nd day the Childs pool had turned GREEN!!!! It was cleaned, but then 2days later it was GREEN again!!! There were only about 20 sunbeds, all apart from about 4 were broken with sharp plastic bits sticking up which was dangerous especially to children and Cig dimps on the grass floor area! On the good side there was Toni's Bar, which was clean, cheap drinks and good food (esp the cheese toasties at 1 in the morning!!!!) only downside was the bar was very small and not much seating inside or out!!! The apparent onsite supermarket was non existent - it was an empty shell!! We did however have a great holiday, in Praia Da Rocha, the location to the beach and main strip was brill- just a 5 min walk! So having said all that, it was a cheap week and we got what we paid for!!! We would probably go back to Praia Da Rocha but maybe find somewhere slightly more luxurious next time.
