“Would go back again”

I chose this hotel because of its location as it was my first time going away alone, although I was joined at different times by family and a friend. It was near to the sea, had good public transport and shops, even the Continente hypermarket, within walking distance.
The apartment was a good size and comfortable although the lighting was poor for reading at night; however I have found this in almost every hotel or apartment I have stayed in. It had a view over the swimming pool and I could also see the sea. The sun was on the balcony all afternoon while the road side had the morning sun. I had been concerned about road noise, having read previous reviews, but I can only say that at this time of year it was not a problem - nor was crossing the road and we found that as soon as we approached the crossing point the traffic stopped.
The only problem with the apartment was that it was not centrally heated. 2 portable oil fired radiators were provided, but they did take a while to heat the whole room, although they were useful for getting the washing fully dry! As the electricity went off when the key card was removed I did initally have a problem with coming home in the evening to a cold room; however I took the key off the card and so could leave them on and the problem was solved.
One of my other reasons for choosing the Amarilis was the indoor pool, but in fact I did not use it. This was because it was only open for a short time each day and the weather was really good, however I did think that the price [6 euros] was quite expensive.
The kitchen in the apartment was adequate and well equipped, but I would have liked an oven. My fridge inly had a small frozen food part, but my daughter had a fridge freezer in hers, so if that is important to you, ask for it.
The apartments were kept nice and clean with regular clean towels and linen. The wardrobe in the bedroom was large, but there was a shortage of drawers - I used the ones in the lounge. All the staff were helpful and pleasant and the price through Travel Republic was a bargain.
The big plus of the place was it's location. It was only a couple of minutes to the centre of Praia da Rocha beach with the flat sandy beach to the East going down to the Marina and Portimao, while to the right were the rocky beaches leading to Praia da Vau. Both ways made lovely walks.
An excellent restaurant is the Casa da Rocha in the Praia d Vau direction - fantastic views, nice food and friendly staff. I was quite comfortable eating there alone.
i would certainly consider going back to Amarilis, my only reservation being the heating.

“great hotel, close to all amenities”

We have just arrived home from our second stay at this hotel....we stayed 12 years ago and nothing has changed, still a great hotel with a lovely..if somewhat cold...pool, also an indoor pool, massage and beauty treatment room, hairdresser and gym and on site supermarket, there is also a bar in the hotel as well as the pool bar which was open till 11pm, (the indoor bar whilst we were there was only open at breakfast time, but we presume this was because the hotel was very quiet, as was the resort itself), we had a huge apartment on the eighth floor (there is a lift), which consisted of a huge lounge/diner, large kitchen with all utensils and full oven and hob, toaster, microwave, fridge etc, a bedroom with plenty of storage space, both hanging and drawers and a bathroom, the water was always hot no matter what time of day you wanted a bath/shower. The only gripe was that although the floor was swept everyday, the maid didnt clean very well and all the furniture had a layer of dust on it, and on one day she never made the beds but other than that we had no complaints...after all we were only in it to sleep.
The pool areas and the reception/bar areas etc were spotless, and the reception staff were brilliant...i arrived with toothache late on the friday night and they immediately phoned round to find me a dentist.
The resort of praia da rocha is lovely, loads of bars and resturants and a literal 5 min walk across the main road to the promenade, we recommend both humburts restuarant (when you cross the main road and get to the front, turn right and its nearly at the end on the right hand side...very nice and very reasonably priced....3 course meal plus sangria and beers for two of us was 40 euro, also if you turn left on to the main strip on the right hand side about half way along in the irelands eye...an irish bar with a lovely outside seating area facing the sea and good value for money.
We hired a car from over in the uk through enjoy car rental which worked out at £82.00 for the week airport to airport..but we do recommend you have sat nav with you!! the resort is about 45 mins from the airport at faro.
We drove all over and found some wonderful places....we also recommend going on a jeep safari...a fantastic day out and you get to see the 'real algarve', also the ophelia catermaran cruise, takes you out to sea to cruise along the east coast and some stunning views and caves are to be found on this trip culminating in a bbq on the beach.
We also recommend the titanic restuarant...for a posh night, very expensive but the best food ive tasted in a long while.
The weather was fantastic 33 degrees most days but the sea is very cold still!!!

All in all a fantastic holiday and we will def be back again soon.

As soon as i walked into club amarillis i saw it as very clean and tidy and fresh people may say it was old but that is portugeuse culture. The rooms are deasent , you had lots of room so you wasnt squashed up. The room was clean and tidy and smelled really nice. The veiw from the balcony was amazing if you get the right side you can have a sea veiw but if not on the other side you can see the sun go down which is a pleasant veiw.

The swimming pool was very clean and tidy. A little girl fell near the pool on my trip \nd was treated by the staff emmiedatly which was very good.
The snacks their are very nice but i wouldnt reccomend the main food ans it is not worth what you had to pay

I had a very nice time their and i would definatly reccomend it and come again if possible

YOU WONT REGRET IT IF YOU STAY HERE !

worked very hard all year to pay for a 2 week holiday at club amarilis, never again.!!!After paying for a safe facility we came home from the beach 4 days into our holiday to fid the safe had been broke into and all our cash stolen. There was no sign of forced entry on the door.We complained to hotel management ,who wer very unco-operative and gave us no law. They offered no compesation and the police were of the same manner.I could not reccommend this hotel to anybody and would never go back again. It was a nightmare and felt staff were talking about us for the remainder of our holiday.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“It's an average "timeshare" but location is great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2010

My husband and I stayed here at the end of May. The hotel could use some upgrades. Nevertheless it's a no frills stay. We only used it to cook, shower and sleep, majority of our time was spent at the beach which was ~2 blocks away. There was no remote control but if you call downstairs, they will bring you one. Our kitchen had the basic cooking utensils but didn't have a blender or coffee maker and no scissors! Also, there's no laundry room in the building which I was lead to believe otherwise. There are local laundromats nearby but it's quite pricey. The supermarket to go to is Continente - it's in a mall and there's everything there (it's like a smaller version of a walmart or target back in the states but with plenty of fresh food). The wine section there is very good and the store is very organized and they also take credit cards which the nearby supermarkets don't accept credit cards that are not from portugal.

The resort did not seem busy at all while we were there. Only occasionally did we see other guests. Our bedroom had twin beds so it was a bit uncomfortable. At night you do hear street noises or the gulls fighting or the dogs barking even though we are on the 10th floor.

Any how, this is not much different from timeshares that we've stayed in Turkey, Canary Islands or Maui but definitely don't expect a great hotel. Also, there's internet in the lobby where you can buy an access code to use the wi-fi or desktop for 15 min, 30 min or an hour.
