We (Myself and the wife) stayed here in late September/early October 2011.
We arrived fairly late, but there was someone there to welcome us. He also offered us the option of the remote for the A/C and the TV, for a refundable deposit. No hassle.
The room was large, with a bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen/dining area. The sofas in the kitchen/dining area can turn into beds. While the rooms are really clean, they are a bit 80's in decor. No problem for us, but don't expect super modern art deco stuff. The kitchen comprised of handbasin, hob, microwave, and the all important fridge.
We had breakfast in the bar area the first morning, while we got our bearings. It was fine, nothing special. After this, we made a trip down to Continental, a massive superstore about 10 minutes walk away. I would advise this, we stocked up on juice, breads, ham and snacks. A 5 litre of water was .60c, or 6 x 2 litres was €1 something. This was a better better, made it easy to carry water around, store in the fridge, etc.
The staff were friendly, easy going, nothing in Portugal is really done with much urgency, but you're on holiday, relax! The rooms were cleaned every day while we were out, toilet paper restocked, towels done if you follow the international (at this stage) rules, floor or in bath for restock, hanging up for no thanks.
Another reviewer mentioned about a skate park/football pitch behind the hotel disturbing them? Rubbish. Entertainment. Not so much a skate park, but a BMX park. Every evening before we went out, we watched the (I want to say kids, but some were older, maybe 20's) guys on bikes, and there was one particular guy whole could make his bike dance, literally. I was impressed that they had a place like this for them, something to keep them entertained, exercised, and out of trouble.
The pool was a salt water pool, rather than chlorine based, and heated by the sun. There are loungers around, and it was quiet while we were there, it could get busy if the hotel was busier.
The beach was about 15 minutes walk, and thats where the main restaurants and bars were. We did take a trip down to Portimao old town, but there wasn't a lot to see or do there.
The hotel can organise excursions from the front desk, just talk to them for details. We went on the one to the Sea Park, a water world and Sea animal exhibition. Included travel to and from the hotel.
They did have a bus organised to go into town etc, but walking was just as easy.
The staff are smart, we happened to pick up a bottle of wine one day, just to have in the room in case we wanted it. There was no bottle opener, but the next morning, after the housekeeping staff had been in, they left a bottle opener beside the bottle for us.
All in all, It was a nice base, did exactly what we wanted, and we enjoyed ourselves.
