Myself and my partner have just got back from spending a week in the lovely little village of Alvor. We loved the place, it was fantastic. We were spoilt for choice when eating out (which was every night) and there were plenty of bars also. Many of the restaraunts have terraces on the roof tops so you can watch the sun setting whilst tucking into some sardines or fish of your choice as there are many many fish restaraunts, but there are also plenty of other places to eat.
The beach was amazing, totally picture post-card material. I have read other posts which have said that the water was cold, but I never found it to be cold at all. Ok it wasnt as warm as the med as it is the atlantic but it was far from cold.

Originally we had booked to stay in the Atlantico because the travel agent showed us a picture of the bungalows and said that that is where we would be staying. When we got there we were furious to find that we were in fact staying in a high rise on the 7th floor. My partner suffers from vertigo so imagine how he felt! The rooms were dated and shabby (bits of the wall were chipped out and our door wouldnt open or shut properly!) altho I must say that the kitchenette was well equipped and clean.

We were annoyed with the travel agent for mis-selling us outr holiday. It was my 30th b,day whilst we were there so we decided to book the holiday in advance instead of doing a last-minute deal like we normally do, and so we ended up paying almost full price. But all was sorted out. We spk to out travel rep who I must say was most helpful and she sorted it out there and then. We moved to the hotel and didnt have to play a supplement! The hotel itself was marvelous. We must have stayed in the redecorated rooms as ours was very well furnished - we have a lovely king size bed - and nicely decorated. We couldnt fault the hotel at all. The breakfast was nice, varied food and we were impressed with its opening hours of 7.30 - 10.00.

We had a really great holiday and would recommend anyone go and stay at the hotel and in Alvor as you will not be dissapointed.

we just spent 2 weeks in alvor, at this hotel. we had a studio apartment and the hotel was renovated in early january, 2005. we loved our room, found that it offered excellent value for the money and would go back in a heartbeat.
the front desk staff are very accomodating, friendly and knowledgable. the only fault we can give to the hotel is that we wished there were microwaves in the kitchenettes---there is a 2 burner cooktop, a toaster and a coffeemaker. it was impeccably clean--everywhere!
the setting, right on the beach, is fabulous, and if one didn't have a vehicle, one could walk to the village of alvor within an easy 10-15 minutes. i can't say enough good things about it.

My mother, my spouse and myself stayed two weeks at the Alvor Atlantic hotel through a last minute deal with JM Vacations. Because the deal was so good ($999.00 CAD per/person incl:flight, car and accommodations) I wasn't expecting very much in the way of the hotel. The hotel itself was a bit hard to find as the signs seemed to point in obscure directions. Once we found it, however, we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were clean, and looked exactly like the picture on this site (minus the ocean view of course). The kitchenette had two burners, a sink, toaster, coffee maker and mini fridge. Although it is obviously an older hotel, it has been kept up very well. The elevators are the old style with the cage door, which, in my opinion, only added to the charm of the place. We were there in January 2005 so things were quiet. The indoor pool was open from 9am-9pm and the steam bath quickly became our favorite place to be. If you're expecting to be waited on with white gloves and be surrounded by the upper crust of society you may want to spend a little more and visit their sister hotel Dom Jao II or the Delfim (when it opens back up), but if you are a reasonable traveller who can just go with the flow, this property is super value for the money.

I get upset when I see fellow travellers that find time on their holidays to abuse the VERY HELPFUL hotel staff with silly complaints like "there aren't enough dishes in our kitchenette and you'd better do something or we're filing a complaint!" (unfortunetly this is a true story).

So go with reasonable expectations and you will find wonderful clean and friendly accommodations at this property.

The worst hotel experience.... Don't ever go there. Overpriced. The beach and Ocean are nice. But everything else is not worth visiting. Facilities are out of date.
Hotel management was less than helpful, and honestly rude. They served us pizza wich we took into our room as it was late, and then we discovered it had tissue paper all over it and was impossible to eat. So we asked them to refund money , but offered us a new one. 15 mins later, we got one, and then when started eating it, realised it was the original pizza just with some extra cheese on top in order to cover the paper. Very upset and not hungry any more I returned the pizza and asked them to give me my money back. They refused saying that the till is closed already. The next day they refused again. The management never gave us our 16 euros back. Food in general was very bad, although it's considered as the best hotel with the best restaurant in the area. We wrote a letter to the General Manager, who couldn't care less as we understood from his reply. Basically, what he said was"sorry for your bad experience, but we will not refund your 16 euros"
