“Highly recommend for bed and breakfast near Lagos Marina”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2010

Today we returned from a two week holiday at this hotel and were impressed with the high standard of accommodation. The twin bedded room and the double room at the rear of the hotel were very quiet, clean and spacious. The beds were comfortable and the linen etc. was changed almost every day. The continental breakfast was adequate and the hotel was within walking distance of the fresh fish restaurants, the railway station and the beach. The owners and staff were pleasant and very helpful. They will be closing at the end of the month for redecoration. K.M.Richards

“A splendid weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2010

We arrived in Lagos late, very tired, with no hotel reservation, only to find the wonderful Marina S. Roque Hotel.

We were warmly greeted, by a very helpful manager, who we, next morning, find out to be the hotel owner.

After a peaceful nights sleep, we decided to stay for the all weekend, instead of just the night.

This hotel seemed ideal for a relaxing break.

There was a warm atmosphere everywhere and the delightful, charming family who run it, together with their friendly staff, made us feel at home.

Manuel & Maria are the most perfect hosts, attending to our every need.

We had a lovely stay in this truly special family-run little hotel.

The Hotel location and service are excellent.

The facilities are great.

The breakfast choice and bar selection, simply superb.

All in all a great find!

A brilliant weekend on a fantastic place.

Thank you and see again soon.

Anne & Peter, from Sweden

“The best hospitality you could wish for!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

The first time we stayed at the Hotel Marina S. Roque, we felt like we were the only guests staying, this was five years ago and we have been going back, every July, since.

Now, we come to regard the Marina S. Roque, as our second home.

The property is beautiful, very well kept and includes an outdoor swimming pool, a covered patio with a garden, a sunbathing area for relaxing and a roof terrace with a lovely view over Meia Praia and the modern Yacht harbour/Marina area.

The rooms are specious and very comfortable, spotless clean, every day, by a very efficient maid service

The staff is very helpful, friendly and attentive.

There is a convenient private car park, just outside the hotel.

The surrounding Marina and water front area have, for us, much to offer: plenty of places to eat, good shopping and a wonderful playground area for our 4 year old daughter.

The owners and their staff are most welcoming and look after their guests like family.

Everyone is always doing their outmost to make sure everything is perfect.

The bar evenings are great fun, with a unique chance to chat and share experiences with other fellow guests and enjoy some of Manuel’s’ excellent cocktails.

After breakfast, with home made jam, marmalade, cakes and all the different types of juice and coffee you could imagine, a real treat, we relaxed by the pool or headed out, on a day journey, to visit the beautiful surroundings.

Over these past years, we have visited amazing places and spent hours on the idyllic coastal beaches.

Manuel & Maria Tavares, the owners, with their wonderful hospitality, have been able to answer all our many questions, recommended outings and sights, which we would never have found on our own.

We went to the Hotel on personal recommendation and I would gladly further recommend it to others.

The family who own it and their incredible staff are what makes this Hotel special.

Their warm personalities and the welcoming atmosphere of this place, make all the difference.

It is rare that you find a place that makes you wish you could stay forever…Hotel Marina S. Roque is one of such destinations.

“Worst start to a holiday that I've ever had”

After booking 4 nights at the Marina Sao Roque on expedia.com,my partner and I arrived at the hotel (which is located a good 20 mins walk from the town centre), only to be shunned away by the owner. When I explained to him that we are here to check in and presented my booking confirmation, he proclaimed that the hotel was booked out and he was not checking anyone else in tonight and asked us to leave. Naturally we were very confused as we had booked and paid for 4 nights and kindly explained that we had a reservation. It turned out that he had given away the rooms that had been booked by online customers away already and had only informed the website that afternoon.
We asked him how this could happen and he actually had the nerve to yell at us about how ridiculous it is that expedia and other websites expect him to hold rooms for their web customers in peak season (I had to ask him twice to lower his voice as it was not necessary to yell at a customer). After explaining he should channel his anger towards expedia - his hotel representative, we asked him to emapthise with our position and offer some assitance in finding an alternative hotel, being peak season and 8.30pm in the evening, to which he laughed at us and told us to go find a payphone in the town centre and smugly wished us luck.
I have never experianced this kind of disgusting rudeness from someone who is in the customer service business. We were fortunate to find some alternative accomodation in the town centre at half the price we were going to spend at Marina Sao Roque.
Ulitmately I am so happy we did not give him our business and we filed a complaint with expedia. Sadly, there were 3 more expedia customers that were to check in that evening too, only to receive the same cold and rude treatment by that bitter, rude old man.

Stay here if you must as a last resort, but in terms of location and value, there are plenty more places in the town centre, some being listed online and some not, that are much more worthy of your business. Also all the great beaches are next to the centre, not to mention a plethora of amazing restaurants which are just a bit to far to waik to if you are staying at the Marina Sao Roque.

“20 minutes walk from city centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2010

The hotel is quite nice, old-portuguese style, I found it a little expensive for being a 3***. It is located at about 20 minutes walk from the centre of Lagos, it is ok walking during day, but I would not recommend it at night. The room was ok, the bathroom not very good, especially the shower, what I really appreciated was the breakfast, with good variety, and a nice dining room to have it in. There is also a small and nice pool that the guests can enjoy.
