“Haven Of Peace And Tranquility”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2008

We arrived on the 3rd September at lunch time. Its advisable to go to the D'oiro hotel to check in (this is the sister hotel of the apartments) as there is no one at the Villa Marazul only the cleaning staff.
We had to wait until 2.30pm to be taken to our accomodation, but it was a pleasant surprise when we was upgraded to a one bedroom apartment,(very spacious, room 203) as I had only booked a studio. You cannot fault the place for cleanliness.
The pool is very nice, but a bit cold!!
There is still some work going on across the way, a new complex being built, sometimes a little noisy, but it did not cause major problems.
There is a beach down the road and a bus stop into Lagos, 1 euro each. The walk into Lagos is ok if you feel energetic, but if its really hot forget it. There are a few restaurants up the road, we went to the chinese a couple of times and it was delicious.
All in all it is a nice place if you require a chill out and a rest from the madding crowd!!

“What a wonderful weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2008

I hadn't stayed in self catering accommodation for some time and was a bit concerned about what we might get on arrival. We hadn't paid very much for the rooms and thought this might be reflected in the quality - happily it wasn't!
The rooms were clean, spacious and with everything we needed including toiletries in the bathroom. We hired beach/pool towels from the hotel which helped as it saved our luggage allowance!
In the heat, walking into town isn't much fun but reception called taxis for us each day at no charge and for a few euros it was worth it.
The pool had a couple of leaves in but nothing at all that would stop you going in and the rooms were spotless when we returned from the beach each day. There is a mini-market shop nearby and a gorgeous beach within easy walk.
It's very quiet at night and no noise comes through from neighbouring guests.
Me and the other girls cant wait to go back next year!

“Large building going on next door”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2007

The damn building work is the reason for the low score. There's a major (I mean major) piece of building work going on and I could see it from my balcony. They begun work at 8am - 7pm. The banging I can stand, the drilling and sawing drove me crazy. It's a major project which will run at least another year. If I'd known the work was being done, I wouldn't have gone there at all. Luckily we spent all day away, and with the doors and windows closed, it was much quieter.

The hotel is very nice, small hotel, hardly saw anyone else. The rooms are good size and the pool's lovely. If the building work was finished, or never taken place, it would get 4.5 out of 5. But, these forums are to tell the truth and it sort of spoiled my holiday, a little, not a lot. Loved, totally loved Lagos.

“What a find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2006

We luckily fell upon this inexpensive, but delightful Pension type hotel in the middle of bustling Lagos. Yes you may find the front room noisey but we had a quiet room at the back. Rooms are cleaned daily, they provide a basic breakfast & its dirt cheap at 30 Euros (out of season). Staff are first class, helpful & friendly. Beds comfy, bathroom a little average but everything works. It maybe hot in summer so if thats a worry this hotel may not be for you but we stayed in October when its mild. The windows work though & there's a fan.

It has a flight of stairs to conquer if luggage is an issue. But the location makes up for all those small inconveniences. Good restaurants right outside.

“great value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2006

This villa/apartments has pros and cons but there is something special about it given the cheap(ish) price.

Check in is at sister Hotel Costa D'Oiro Ambiance Village. We just turned up at the villa itself where there is a phone and a number for the sister hotel, call them they will pick you up to sign in and drop you back off.

In the website we booked from, a number of facilties where advertised but what you get is a studio flat or 1 bed flat and a shared pool. There is no shuttle bus into town, no golf, no bar etc. despite whats advertised your getting a villa - not a hotel.

We stayed in the studio flat which was very large, more than enough room for two, seperate bedroom, bathroom and combined kitchen/living room. The villa is very clean and each flat has its own balcony with table and chairs complete with sea view. There is a beautiful beach next to the villa (200-300m), mainly used by locals. The pool is very nice as well.

The villa has a really nice feel, in a beautiful but secluded part of town (outskirts). Unless you are fit I would recommend a car, we never had one and it took a minute or so to get to the beach, 10 minutes to walk to the nearest shop and 25-30 minutes into town (thats not a leisurely stroll either). We dont mind walking so never had a real problem.

Ask for a key for the safety deposit box when you check-in. The person who drove us to the check-in never told us this and it was only when we got back to the apartment that we discovered this. The checkin is only 5 minutes drive but a 25 minutes walk.

I would have given this four and a half stars but as there are no half marks I have opted for five.

  • Liked — great view, good size studio
  • Disliked — just too far from town without car
  • Tips/Secrets — ask for safe deposit key when cheking in
