“Bad value and bad service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2010

We went to Lagos, Algarve for 5 days in August 2010 and after reading the reviews about Canavial Apartments decided to go there.

It stated with the room, which had only one way to get in through the balcony door, facing 10 other rooms and the pool. There was no privacy, as the door was all glass.
We have asked for a room with some privacy and we were told there are none available despite the fact that only 3 or 4 rooms were rented out of probably more than 20....

We asked bout beach towels and the answer was "didn't you bring the from home"...Not really we were coming from Canada and had few other city stops on the way...So we ended up buying towels, and umbrellas from the Supermarket.

Our room towels were changed only once in 5 days and that's because I have asked the maid and left her a larger tip. The "new" towels we got were very old and looked quite dirty. I think we were better off with the first ones.
When you are at a beach resort and take 3 showers a day it's hard to use the same wet towels for 3 days in a row.

I have long hair and I need a hair dryer to dry it. Not at Canavial. They were very surprised when I asked about one and said they don't have any, but again, i can go and buy one...

There was nobody at reception and they made us pay for the room when we checked-in.
At check-out we just left the key on their desk. Again, nobody there.

The Apartments are rated 3/4 stars, so we paid 105 euros/night. No breakfast, no privacy, no hair dryer, no towels. I am wondering what did we pay for.

They advertise they have wireless internet, however it worked 3 days out of 5 and we couldn't find anybody to ask about it, as the receptionist was gone for those days...

I would go again and i would NOT recommend anybody to go, as there are places much cheaper and nicer in Algarve and even in Lagos.

“Great Holiday once again at the Canavial Apartments Ian & Kath Nottingham”

Once again we have had a great 2 weeks holiday in the Canavial apartments. Both of the villas have been newly decorated inside and out in very tasteful colours. The rooms as always are spotlessly clean and the service from the staff was great. This year there is a new reception area based at Canavial 1 and also a new receptionist to cater for all your needs. The receptionists name is Andrea and he is a local lad and knows the area well and speaks very good english and can advise on hireing cars, bicycles trips out and the locations of all the attractions that Lagos and the surrounding areas have to offer. If you are a newcomer to the Lagos area on first impressions you may think the apartments are a little out of the way but think again. It is only a 2 minute walk to hop on a local bus into town. The local shops, bars and restaurants are just a ten minute walk away and the vibrant and historic city of Lagos is only a 20 minute walk, where there are great places to eat out and for the younger ones liveley bars and disco's if you feel like shaking your stuff.
The Canavial Apartments are ideal for couples wanting a relaxing holiday or great for families looking for a great base to stay and go exploring around the Algarve.

Dont miss out by not booking a holiday at the Canavial Apartments this year, its great value for money.

“A real gem, ver relaxing but near central lagos”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2009

We stayed at Canavial Apartments for a weeks holiday at the end of June and as our first trip to Portugal, couldnt have been happier with our choice. The apartments are a 15 minute walk from the centre of Lagos, but the walk is pleasant and there is a well stocked shop, and restaurant and bars nearer. Taxi's to and from the centre of Lagos seemed to be a fixed rate of 4 Euros and easy to get. The beach which is only a 5 minute walk down hill has a cafe/restaurant on the left and an excellent restaurant further up on the right where we had dinner a couple of nights as service and food was so good, and who wouldnt want to stare out to sea while eating! It was very hot, 30 degrees plus while we were there so the unheated pool wasnt a problem, cold for the first second, then lovely! The poolside was never overcrowded and although often other people around it wasnt noisy. Perfect to relax! Rooms are clean and have all you would expect, we had a really large balcony which you could see the sea on the horizon (perfect for a glass of shop brought wine while getting ready for the evening). I would recommend the rooms on the second floor as the outside space for rooms downstairs was overlooked by anyone around the pool. I would really recommend here if you dont mind a short walk into the centre and are looking to relax and plan your days as you wish. Theres no bar / reception / restaurant so you are left to get on with your holiday - just what we wanted. Only one pillow per bed and lack of toilet roll - hardly a big problem. You have to carry your own bags up a flight of stairs if you have a room on second floor.
