“Absolutely Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2011

I plan to recommend Solar de Mos to all my friends and family. The staff is helpful and friendly. The breakfast is great. The pool and padio area are ideal for families with kids, young couples, and groups of friends alike. The location is within walking distance to both the beach and the city center and still maintains its B&B feel. And its affordable! When you return to Solar de Mos after a day of touring or laying on the beach, don't miss the opportunity to sit on the padio and enjoy the breeze with a glass of wine before bed.

“It gets better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2011

This was our 10th visit to this wonderful small hoteland it is like going back home. Each time we go we meet somebody we have met before as people go back year after year.Lina and Carlos could not be more helpful and the snacks and meals are as good as you will get in most resteraunts and very reasonably priced. The breakfast which is served betwwen 8.30 and 10.30 are very good .The rpoms are very clean and comfortable and the whole of the hotel and the pool area is spotlessly clean. The walk into Lagos is downhill and takes about 20 minutes and a taxi back is only 3.90 euros. We are now looking forward to our next visit later this year.

“Quirky, clean, quiet and friendly small hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2011

As with other reviews this is a great wee place which is away form the main throng of hotels.
Directions – if you are using a Sat Nav it will drop you at the local tennis court! Even turning it to 2D and 3D maps will have you going round in circles!
Easiest way is to look out for the “large suspended black ball sculpture” on the roundabout (trust me that will make sense when you see it!), turn left past the Hotel Monmar continue up the hill to the next roundabout (it has a sculpture with two tulips); there is an Italian Restaurant on the left hand side (position 9-12 o’clock). Turn right up the hill and then look out for Villabranca which is the hotel complex on the block before Hotel Solar de Mos.
The hotel is pink and is set off the main road on the left and is in a quiet cul de sac with parking at the front.
We stayed here for 3 nights but would definitely go back for longer the next time.
Its quirky, comfortable, really friendly staff who speak good English which helped us non Portuguese speakers,
The bedroom was ideal for the two of us. The bed was huge and firm mattress = good sleep.
Fridge in the room was great for storing our own locally purchased water
Breakfast was from 0830 – 1030, with the usual food items from fresh fruit, to cooked eggs, bread,s cereals etc.
Swimming pool and area are kept really clean, the pool looked enticing but I never tried it due to limited time available.
The hotel is walkable form the town centre, down a fairly steep hill, takes approx. 20 mins but longer getting back! We walked it every time though parking in the town is best and easiest in the underground car park on the promenade which is easy to access and meant the car was kept in the shade and moderately priced.
We had a lovey Thai meal in Lemongrass just off the main street – well recommended.
Coffee in Bora café which also had nice snack foods but it was a bit smoky due to cigarettes
Lunch – fabby restaurant called Linda’s which is based on the beach at the opposite side from the town – get directions as you will feel you are heading onto the beach
All in all this is a great wee place which has everything the larger hotels have, even down to the bathrobes but in a more homely manageable guest house size.

“A GREAT LITTLE FIND”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2011

Let's start by saying that I would happily return to this hotel but it is further out of town than most suggest. We had a car so it was not a problem. The evening trip to the old town area where the restaurants abound would be a major route-march but to attempt to return - all uphill - would give most a coronary especially after a heavy meal. I did not see any buses on the road outside the hotel, but taxis are plentiful and very reasonable. At the time of our visit, all the guests at Solar de Mos had cars and there was ample parking. The entire hotel is spotlessly clean and little sign of wear and tear which is a credit to the owners who are rightly proud of their hotel and appear genuinely pleased to be of whatever help they can. The hotel is still quiet at this time of year as the season is only just starting so it was very relaxed but as there are only 14 rooms it is probably always easy going and relaxed. Our room (room 102) overlooked the swimming pool area and was very comfortable. The air conditioning was very effective. Sadly, no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Plenty of hot water all the time, nice towelling robes. Lock for safe is extra cost so we did not bother. We did not use the drinks in the cooler cabinet so cannot comment on prices, but enough room to put our own drinks in which soon became very cold. Internet facilities are available in the foyer but at a small charge. Good continental breakfast with plenty of choice available between 8.30 and 10.30 and could be taken in the dining area or outside under the shading canopy. Did not have dinner in the hotel as the attraction of the old town was too great to resist. Swimming pool was immaculately maintained with plenty of sun loungers (enough for all the visitors even when the hotel is full). Although the hotel is only one story high it has a lift. Lots of books to borrow in lounge area. Overall a wonderful experience and we both would be delighted to return to this hotel even if we did not have a car as we would simply use taxis rather than stay elsewhere. A highly recommended hotel in a great resort.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the rooms overlooking the pool.

“A great little hotel on the edge of the town centre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 March 2011

We had a great time here. This is a small hotel with about 15 rooms, about 15 - 20 minutes walk to the centre of town, In February the only staff are the owners who are brother and sister. A are a friendly pair and very hard working - working 7 days a week. This didn't stop then always having time to chat and make us feel welcome.

The hotel and its rooms are tastefully decorated with a selection of tasteful solid wood furniture and interesting nic nacs. The rooms which are a fair size are freshly painted and light and airy. To be honest, it wouldn't hurt to freshen up the bathrooms a little (in ours some of the tiles were cracked and the shower cubicle was a little jaded) but it was spotlessly clean.

The fact that we got this and breakfast for 50 Euro makes it very good value indeed, though the price is a lot higher in the peak season. We had a fantastic stay - thanks to the owners.

About Lagos. If you are looking for a base to explore from then I strongly recommend Lagos. It has lots of restaurants of which some are really good and night life if you want it. The town which even though has a fair amount of tourist is mainly a normal working and living part of Portugal so you can get a taste of the real Portugal. From here you have easy access to the main motorway that go across the Algarve so you can visit all the great places that they have.
