My daughter (20) and I have stayed at the Vila Gale Lagos twice now and both times we've had a glorious holiday. There is the most superb beach just across the road, which you can walk along for what seems like miles in either direction. There are some great restaurants on this beach too but they get busy even out of season so you may need to consider booking. The beach was deserted both times we went, bar the odd Portuguese family (end August/early September both times) but the town of Lagos (which if you haven't been is really fun for ALL age groups) still had a real buzz and restaurants were busy. The hotel itself is fine, clean and serves its purpose, staff are very attentive and the rooms large enough to take all one's clutter. Breakfast, continental and English, is plentiful, but I wouldn't bother with dinner there, not too good. Taxis into town are very cheap, and it's only ten mins walk in the evening sun so you can get to all the lovely restaurants easily. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to have a fantastic beach holiday, with great food nearby (aside from the town and the beach restaurants, there's also a lovely restaurant just over the road from the hotel at the Dunas beach club if you can't be bothered to walk but it's very upmarket so a bit more pricey). We didn't bother with the pool, but the poolside cafe does a superb steak sandwich n chips and ice cold beer. Heaven. I'd go back to Vila Gale at the drop of a hat. And if you've got kids they'll love it too.
