“Fantastic Holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2010

We stayed at the Rosamar I which are in the quieter area and are quite dated but very comfortable and the cleaning was done every day. On arrival a bottle of port was on the table in the kitchen. The pool at the sister apartments was unavailable but we had the use of the pool at the guitar bar. This turned out to be an area with three pools and was a very well kept place. We tended to stay in the quiter part of the resort where we found all staff extremely friendly and the prices were so much less than in rip off Ireland. We would thoroughly recommend this resort for those looking to relax and unwind.

“dont waste your hard earned money staying here.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2009

Reception area looks nice, accommodation is basic - not even an overhead light in bedroom. Music is banned in this resort so if you dont want to sleep at 11pm you must get taxi to Albuferia at 40 euro approx(return). Restaurants all serve the same food. Despite advertisements the nearest pool is quarter mile away at Guitar bar. You cannot use pool at Rosamar 2 despite the advertisements. You cannot flag taxis - must be got at official taxi ranks. Taxi drivers take long way round to fleece you so agree price first. Ours ranged from 13 euro to 22 euro for taxi to Albuferia (one way) as some of them take the longest route possible.
You must go to Albuferia to get most trips/attractions. Sand is roasting with no shade as cliff faces that overhang beaches are extremely precarious. Dont go into the water unless your an extremely strong swimmer as you sink in the sand and the waves/surf tumbled people into the water at less than knee level. Flag system operating and strong currents operating frequently so boat trips cancelled. Water park is well worth a visit. No toilets on the long haul buses. Only 2 english speaking pubs in the area. Boaring holiday

“dated but comfortable and well kept. ideal location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2009

Stayed in the Rosamar 1 complex of apartments in Amerca de pera at the end of May beginning of June. came on a package holiday with Thomas Cook/Panaroma/Sunway holidays from Ireland West Airport knock. Amerca de Pera is about 40 minutes from the Faro airport.
Our initial view was "oh god!". there was someone cooking next door and the smell wasn't great but this disappeared. the apartment is dated but very clean. There is lots of hot water but it obviously doesn't last forever; as 2 of us were in the apartment we left showers about 10 mins beftween the first and second shower. our towels were only changed once during the week but our bed was made each day; they should change the towels more often. beds were comfortable and there is a large fridge/freezer which is great. integrated cooking area in the living room but we ate out and only ever had breakfast in the apartment. TV has some english channels on it and there is a balcony which was handy for drying our non-changed towels!
the Rosamar II (2) is next door but is no way affiliated with the Rosamar I. it used to be previously. there is no pool that we saw with the Rosamar I. it seems to be only associated with the Rosamar II.
At night there are seagulls screeching so the best thing to do is pull down the shutters. beds are a little on the hard side but thats cos i am used of a soft bed.

location: the Rosamar is only 50 metres from the beach and is the same from the supermarket. everything is on the door step. you are a 5-10 min walk from the old town but its in an ideal location. beware of Amerca de pera as they currently have all the streets dug up so anyone who's mobility isn't great it might not be the best place for getting about. i think they should have the work done by this year. the beach is huge; i would think its 4-5km's in length and goes to the nearby town of Gale. the weather was gorgeous when we were there. the first 2 days we got sun beds at Rocha Palha restaurant which is great for getting cocktails and food. it is right on the beach.
the beach itself is in great condition; no litter and plenty of sunbeds. there weren't many tourists around when we were there; must be a quiet time of the year.

Out and about: there are some nice restaurants with all specialising in seafood. there is an italian restaurant near the Rosamar; out the door and to the right for 40 metres. we ate there twice and can't recommend it highly enough. we also ate at Rocha Palha which is right on the sea front. i can't remember off hand but we ate in 2/3 other places in the old town. nightlife wise there is Havana's and the Cocktail bar. there wasn't much happening besides. its not a resort for the younger people. we had a relaxing holiday so didn't do any of the sightseeing or adventure activities but there seems to be loads to do especially for families.

“Great Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2008

stayed here for two weeks and really enjoyed it. All staff were pleasant and helpful. Close to all amenities including bus stop and taxi ranks and miles of beach to explore. My husband has to go for dialysis 3 times a week (arranged for us by Irish Kidney Association at a unit in Portimao). Only drawback to the holiday is bus service between towns comes to a standstill around 19.00pm. Quite cheap to travel to the unit by bus but taxi back each time was a bit expensive. Lots to do even on my own in the evening and I felt quite safe wandering around. Admittedly the hotel is a bit quiet, no nitelife in bar but that is what we wanted. We cant wait to go back.

  • Liked — Very central location, not far to go for anything
  • Disliked — cleaning staff sometimes arrived very early-no do not disturb sign available
