“Beautiful place, the worst possible service and needs maintenance”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

We just returned from our vacation at a townhouse on the estate of Pine Cliffs Resort. This holiday is priced at Sheraton-level and for that price clearly below standard. We called every single day about something that was either broken, missing or defect. The dishwasher, the lightling, the heating, .... This place really needs some maintenance, tiles were broken, lamp-caps burnt and the place was just dirty. The cleaner came in every day but did not more than tending to the beds and towels, there was dust all over the furniture, the kitchen remained unclean.
The hotel had just reopened, but the Spa area still suffered from much of the above.
And then the staff: we have Never before come across such unfriendly people that made you feel unwelcome. No hellos or greetings, no please, no apologies for the inconvenience and a general sense of being totally non-committed to help. The very worst of all was Patricia at the reception of the Pine Cliffs Residence. Incredibly, brutally impolite.
The grounds are well kept, and the golfing area is stunning.
But the lift to the beach didn't work most of the time, and when it did we wondered whether to risk it. The sleeping wasn't great either: they hadn't bothered turning the matresses in a loooong time so there was basically a hollow center in which to sleep. Never mind trying to turn around.
We asked to hire a car and they offered us a rate that was 20% more expensive than the rate we found by bothering to compare: with the same agency.... But probably without the Sheraton commission.
Go if you want to pay a lot of money and only care about golf. If

“First class accomodation for chilled October break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

We booked Pine Cliffs through Expedia, having look around at places for an October break. Previously we had been to Sharm-el-Sheikh, Dubai and India but fancied something closer to home. As the tempratures were 26/27c (above average) this seem ideal and I must say we were most pleased and really enjoyed it.
We booked flights, car hire and hotel apartment (3 beds with buffet breakfast) and on arrival we changed rooms to a penthouse apartment. The same as the one we had originally booked but this was closer to the pool and for £25 a night (discounted) it was well worth it.
Restaurents in the complex are nice but a lot cheaper food just outside (Pizza and other bits and the Grill good but nice restaurent just down the road for fish (garlic prawns to die for) and kebabs.
Beach and pools at hotel excellent as well plus plenty of beds (sunset is superb).
Lots of golfing opportunities, although we passed and relaxed.

First time in Portugal but we would go back if weather good...

Room Tip: Rooms near pool better but slightly noisier

“Sensational resort with immaculate service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

We loved our stay in a 1 bedroom appartment in the S5 section. The appartment is very well furnished, the bedroom is large with plenty of storage room. The appartment has 2 balconies, one small kitchen, 1 large bathroom and equipped to cook or eat take away.
The breakfast was so good. It is buffet style abd kept clean. The waiters are also nearby.
The resort is very much family oriented (as Portugal!). It is our second year in a row that we stay at the Sheraton. Last year was in the hotel and this year at the Pice Cliffs. The extra money was plenty worth it at the Pine Cliffs. The beach is immaculate so are the pools.

“Top Class Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

This review is a bit late since we visitied the resort in August. We originally booked into The Lake Resort in Villamoura, however it just did not live up to our expectations so we managed to get accommodated in Pine Cliffs and left The Lake after four days...
We stayed in The Residences, in a self catering, 2 bed apartment, it was extremely bright and comfortable with large bedrooms, lovely bathrooms and TV in all rooms, it really felt brand new. The kitchen was small but well equipped with good size fridge freezer, dishwasher and utility room with washing machine and drier... If only I had known, we could have taken half the clothes !
The resort is big, if you do not have a car there is quaint, but slow and bumpy train to ferry you around it, note that this stops at 9pm so on those nights you are dining at the opposite end of the resort to where you are staying you are either walking or relying on the hotel to arrange a lift for you.
We stayed on a bed and breakfast plan, but frankly it was so busy and slow that we resorted to having breakfast in the apartment most mornings.
The pool area at the Residences is lovely and well maintained, the kids really enjoyed it and although it was extremely busy whilst we were there we were never unable to find beds.
There is a good selection of restaraunts, quite expensive and food not quite up to scratch but nice dining experiences apart from one night when the food just never arrived! We ended up with free room service and a bottle of wine so at least they went some way to make it up to us. On a couple of occasions we ate outside the resort, and as you can imagine it literally was half the price and since we were there for two weeks, quite nice to get off the resort.
There is a supermarket on site, it is extremely expensive but great for emergencies and the produce is lovely quality and fresh. Opposite the entrance to the resort is a supermarket which is so cheap and has a good selection of food and wine.
At the main hotel/entrance area there is a nice boutique with the usual 5 star priced clothes, just right for those impulsive buys! Also a small store selling mags, papers, books, toys nick nacks etc.
I only used the Spa to have a nail repaired and unfortunately they did not do avery good job so I cannot comment further on that.
The beach is lovely, and the restaraunt located there we found to be much nicer in the evening when it was more relaxed with less customers coming and going.
In summary, Pine Cliffs is lovely, gorgeously maintained, beautiful apartments and plenty of activities, golf, mini golf, tennis, bike hire etc... I would definately visit again.
