As always when using a Trip Advisor review, it is wise to read a good number, try and filter out the petty complaints and then hopefully end up with a balanced view.
We had a nine day stay here at the end of Nov-beginning Dec, and could not find fault with it. Yes, they are generally timeshare appartments, yes, there is a gap between the hotel itself and this complex and yes there is a small hill or two that may make wheelchair pushers huff & puff a little, but this is far outweighed by the fantastic location. When a hotel says 'on the beach' this can mean anything up to half a mile away, but in this case it is....and it's own beach at that. It is truly beautiful and if you are lucky enough to get a sea view, it is magnificent. We didn't at first...we had a lovely one bedroomed appartment, but it was permanently in the shade. As the weather was unseasonably hot and sunny, I thought it worthwhile asking about a change. The staff were superb, and arranged a move to another, sunnier location and even sent a belboy to help with the luggage.
Appartments are comfortable without being swish. Our one bedroomed flat had a good sized living room with full kitchen and a nice dining area. Flat screen TV and clean, functional furniture. These are 4 berth, with a bed settee in the living room so that may be a squeeze with four adults. We also booked breakfast each day, but if we return we wouldn't bother with this again. There is nothing wrong with it, scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon & beans on the hot servery, plus cold meats and cheese along with cereals etc, but we would probably just have a light brekkie in the appartment and avoid temptation! Great value though...if prebooked only around 5 euros a day. There is also an option to upgrade to half board quite cheaply, but in our view it is better to eat out. There is an abundance of restaurants on the 'strip' just a couple of hundred meters away and all offer great three course tourist menus for around 10 euros, normally including a beer or a glass of wine.
The walk into Albufeira is a good 20mins, or a half hour stroll, and again this is very pleasant with good vaue eateries around the square. Maybe it was just because it was out of season, but the restaurants want your business so prices are very low.
The bar at the hotel is quite good, with sports on TV and happy hours in the bar, when a beer is only 1.5 euros. Also free wifi in the bar area is a big bonus if you have a tablet or laptop. If you are a gym user as we are, there is a good gym in the sister hotel, a short walk away, with excellent equipment incuding rowers, cycles, weight bay and a treadmill.
All in all, we couldn't fault it, paying as we did around £350 for nine days B&B for two people in a one bedroomed appartment. Staff were superb....polite and helpful at all times. The complex was very clean and tidy and as I said, the location outstanding. We would not hesitate to return here. Just one thing to note ref hire cars. We hired online picking up from Faro airport and the hire firms now pre charge you for a full tank, bring the car back empty. In our case using it over nine days we got value for money, but if your break is a short one you are unlikely to use a lot of fuel so will end up taking the car back half full...a big waste of money. Check with the operator first, but we were told this is now the norm.
Room Tip: When booking ask for a sea view. Some appartments are in the shade a lot of the day, so it is worth...
