We decided we wanted a fairly cheap week in the sun over Christmas. We wanted all Inclusive so we didnt have to ration, we wanted four or five star and we wanted somewhere sunny. So after looking over the 14 day weather forecast we decided upon the Algarve and the Luna Alpinus. Despite many reviews saying not to go here I was more than happy to trust that it couldnt be that bad....how wrong was I?
Lets start by clearing this one up shall we...NO this hotel is NOT a 4star. The apartments are spacious granted, but nowhere near 4star standard.
The food was just bad. I wish I could put a happy spin on it but no.
There was a meat and a fish course served alongside fried potatoe of some kind, be that chips or wedges or smileys. A salad cart that consisted of lettuce, tomato, cucumber and cheese singles. For starter you had a choice of soup....or soup. The deserts however, were a bit more varied but somehow managed to all contain rich tea biscuits.
We booked all inclusive as I mentioned, this was for one reason only...Alcohol. As we thought it would be nice to not have to worry about how much we were spending at the bar over the Christmas period. We need not have worried, because the amount of time we spent queing was proposterous! At this time of year the hotel slows down...a lot...the pool bar is open from 11am to 11pm - No exceptions. There is usually one overworked man behind the bar pulling beer into plastic picnic cups (You may have a glass if you wish to pay) or if you decide to drink the rancid wine. Spirits are served between 6.30 and 8.30pm conviniently jast as dinner is being served.
Next we have the entertainment. A quiz run by the hotel manager, Kareoke run by the hotel manager, a parot show, and a reptile show. I must stress just how discusted I am at the way these animals were treated all in the name of entertainment. I didn't stay to watch.
The hotel....This time of year the pool is freezing. I used to be a beach lifeguard and am pretty happy to jump into any cold water but even that had me running for the hills. The sun hits the hotel on different points during different times of the day so at some point you will have sun on your balcony.
There is a nice solarium on the roof (Sun terrace) which we were not told about, but found out from another couple a few days before we left but each time we went up there it was populated by drunken teenagers sipping at some cheap vodka...how very four star.
It is also worth noting there is a small shop on site, again a fact we were not told about but useful to know.
All in all a pretty poor show. We still enjoyed our holiday, but we did pay to eat and drink out for a lot of the time and spent a lot on transport. The bus into Albufeira was 3.10 euro each way (6.20 return) so for two of us this became a bit pricey after the week.
Would I come here again...No...Definitely not on an all inclusive basis, its too far out of town and offers nothing in return. It may be cheap but don't be temped.
Room Tip: Another Hotel.
