“Never a 4 star hotel”

Booked this last minute for myself , husband and 3 year old grandson. Didnt expect too much considering how much we paid for the all inclusive package. Food was garbage and had to buy in food and drink for my grandson. The only meal worth talking about was breakfast. Lunch consisted of meat fish pasta or rice with salad.and chips. No sauce for pasta. The same choice for dinner.Asked for blackcurrant juice for my grandson and told that they didnt have any but he could have grenadine with water,Grenadine is not a cordial or suitable for a 3 year old. Staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel is spotlessly clean but the catering lets it down badly. On the secong night we were asked to leave the bar at 11.10pm as they were closing. We still had drinks on the table. Closing time is stated as 12. Seems they make the rules as they go. Snacks are advertised as being at 5pm. When we and other people arrived for them we were told that they donot do snacks in the winter. Spirits all inclusive is only between the hours of 6 and 8.30pm. Soft drinks wine and beer available all day.Certainly wont be back.

“Xmad Break to Alpinus”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Hello.. I just wanted to leave my review on the Alpinus Apartments which I have just got back from. 10 of us and a 6 month old baby went, we was all just after a break from the mad xmas rush.. which is what we got. We didnt expect too much as we didnt pay too much (which is usually how things go?) The hotel I personally would call a 4*.. the rooms are huge, you have a big room with sofa's and they pull out into a bed, a kithen bathroom and bedroom- massive! perfect over the summer months I guess if you was self catering, they had all the right facilities to accomodate this. All inclusive is beer and wine (which is very nice) 11am-11pm.. you are aboard and you have got to remember there wine and beer is different to what we are used too, the sprits were from 6pm-8.30pm ish.. we was not aware of this when we booked but wasnt too bothered, we stocked up on duty free and added to our soft drinks which we didnt hide and the workers didnt seem bothered so everyone happy. Breakfast was nice choice of egg scrambled or fried (although not very freshly) lovely bread beans, horrible garlic sausage's.. but again I expect different as you are away.. there was always a choice of meat and fish and a beatiful salad cart with sauces, for lunch and dinner and your usually chips etc. Food was VERY tasty!! and I have been to lots of all inclusive's and would say this was the nicest in taste. We was only there 5 days so I guess if you was there longer you would want more but for us was perfect, everyone of the 10 people I went with was happy with the food and we had some fussy eaters with us too...

The bar in the entertainment room was the only bar open and was very small so we had to que from time to time, but people were friendly and relaxed as you would expect. No big deal.. we took our drinks up to our room most nights and done a quiz as was quite loud in the bar area and a mix of rowdy drunk people .. but they r on holiday soo allowed to over do it :) room was cleaned by maid twice in time we was there.

There is a lovely beach about 10min walk away which is so worth a visit, ask at reception and she will give you a map.

We went into Albufeira one night the younger ones and had a good night, cheap drinks music.. we was celebrating a birthday great fun was quiet as not peak season.

if you have any othe questions feel free to message me.. just wanted to let u all know its really not tha bad at all.. just go and enjoy a cheap break :)

xxxxx

Room Tip: All rooms are huge and the same :)

“you only get what you pay for”

We stayed here for xmas. We wanted to get away from the farce of what xmas now means and the miserable weather of the UK. We met some absolutely brilliant people who we will always keep in touch with. People is what xmas is all about and we were totally spoilt. We never stopped laughing from leaving london xmas eve morning until today Jan 3rd when we went back to work ugh. The wine was lovely and my partner has the scars to prove it. When you go all inclusive cheap within Europe you have to realise you are not going to get the all inclusive that you pay thousands of pounds for in the carribean.
There is nothing at all wrong with this hotel and it's facilities except the queuing at the bar. As always when we go all inclusive we do not always use it, it could cost you more to go half board, so hey the alcohol is free!!!
Thank you Stewart, Trevor, Sue, Andy, Mick, Betty and everybody else that helped make a fantastic break. Happy New Year to you all and see you again.
Love D & G xx

Room Tip: 306 gets sunshine and looks on to the golf course

“I decided to go against advice and book....I shouldnt have bothered.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

We decided we wanted a fairly cheap week in the sun over Christmas. We wanted all Inclusive so we didnt have to ration, we wanted four or five star and we wanted somewhere sunny. So after looking over the 14 day weather forecast we decided upon the Algarve and the Luna Alpinus. Despite many reviews saying not to go here I was more than happy to trust that it couldnt be that bad....how wrong was I?

Lets start by clearing this one up shall we...NO this hotel is NOT a 4star. The apartments are spacious granted, but nowhere near 4star standard.

The food was just bad. I wish I could put a happy spin on it but no.

There was a meat and a fish course served alongside fried potatoe of some kind, be that chips or wedges or smileys. A salad cart that consisted of lettuce, tomato, cucumber and cheese singles. For starter you had a choice of soup....or soup. The deserts however, were a bit more varied but somehow managed to all contain rich tea biscuits.

We booked all inclusive as I mentioned, this was for one reason only...Alcohol. As we thought it would be nice to not have to worry about how much we were spending at the bar over the Christmas period. We need not have worried, because the amount of time we spent queing was proposterous! At this time of year the hotel slows down...a lot...the pool bar is open from 11am to 11pm - No exceptions. There is usually one overworked man behind the bar pulling beer into plastic picnic cups (You may have a glass if you wish to pay) or if you decide to drink the rancid wine. Spirits are served between 6.30 and 8.30pm conviniently jast as dinner is being served.

Next we have the entertainment. A quiz run by the hotel manager, Kareoke run by the hotel manager, a parot show, and a reptile show. I must stress just how discusted I am at the way these animals were treated all in the name of entertainment. I didn't stay to watch.

The hotel....This time of year the pool is freezing. I used to be a beach lifeguard and am pretty happy to jump into any cold water but even that had me running for the hills. The sun hits the hotel on different points during different times of the day so at some point you will have sun on your balcony.
There is a nice solarium on the roof (Sun terrace) which we were not told about, but found out from another couple a few days before we left but each time we went up there it was populated by drunken teenagers sipping at some cheap vodka...how very four star.
It is also worth noting there is a small shop on site, again a fact we were not told about but useful to know.

All in all a pretty poor show. We still enjoyed our holiday, but we did pay to eat and drink out for a lot of the time and spent a lot on transport. The bus into Albufeira was 3.10 euro each way (6.20 return) so for two of us this became a bit pricey after the week.

Would I come here again...No...Definitely not on an all inclusive basis, its too far out of town and offers nothing in return. It may be cheap but don't be temped.

Room Tip: Another Hotel.
