“Right in the city centre of the old town of Albufeira”

I stayed in this hotel for the New Year's Eve (I stayed here for 2 nights: 31 December 2010 / 02 January 2011).
The hotel is right in the historic centre of Albufeira (50 meters to Praia dos Pescadores - "Fishermen's Beach"), and between the 2 streets of bars of that area.
It is a really simple hotel (with continental breakfast) that usually has nice prices.
If you don't want to pay too much and you want to stay near the beach and into the nightlife this hotel is for you. But, since it is a very simple unit, it doesn't have any swimming pool.
This is an hotel in a very agitated area. From the room you can clearly ear the noise from the streets of bars above. This being said, this hotel suits the young people the best or the ones with young minds.

“great holiday”

we went to the Baltum not expecting very too much after reading other revues but where pleasently surprised. our room was bright and spaceous and the beds comfortable. the breakfast was continental but we knew that before going, the evening meal was a set meat or fish main course and was really good, always varied and more than satisfactory. all the staff where both friendly and helpful.
The hotel is in the heart of the old town resort so of course you get some noise but it didnt bother us much and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony watching all the hustle and bustle.

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2009

The hotel is 2mins from the beach and 2mins from the main square. The rooms are basic and small but very clean. Clean bedding & towels each day. Reception staff very pleasant and helpful. The balconys are little more than ledges but still worth the extra charge and our room had very good air con. A hair drier was installed in the bathroom. We didnt hear much noise from the bars nearby. A good basic hotel for people who dont want to spend too much time in the room. Take a travel kettle if you want an early morning cup of tea. We will probably return next year.

“Great Deal for a BeachComber/Barhopper...only”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2009

We stumbled upon the Hotel Baltum while on a day trip in Albufeira from Lisbon and decided that, for only 67 Euros, we could stay the night in Albufeira and go to the beach in the morning. The location is only a couple blocks from the beach and right in the heart of what I like to call "Margaritaville": the super-touristy, partytime section of town.

I immediately second-guessed my decision when I saw the dark, dingy little room that faced the street. I reasoned that we would be exhausted later and only needed it to sleep and shower. Unfortunately, my partner and I are not hardcore party animals, and after a mediocre dinner at one the many nearby-mediocre-restaurants we decided that a night on the town probably was not in the cards, so we retreated to our room.

The noise from the streets continued until 5am. The shrill hollers of giddy/belligerent drunkeness. Unable to sleep, we just stared are the grey walls and wiggled under the itchy sheets. While it may be a bargain for someone who really enjoys the nightlife of downtown Albufeira, Hotel Baltum really wasn't for us.
