I stayed at this hotel with my wife and two teenage daughters and have to say that it one of the best holidays we have had. I can't think of anything really bad to say about the resort or the hotel it was a really good place to visit. I'll try to break it down a bit to help everyone out...
The Hotel...The rooms in the hotels are huge, like everyone else has said. My wife and I had our own room, as did my daughters, but there would have been plenty of space for a family of four in one room, if you don't mind using a pullout sofa. There is a seperate bedroom and bathroom and an open plan kitchen area with a hob and fridge but no oven. The pool, I suppose is a bit small and there is the usual fight for sunbeds, but we found it better to go out to the beautiful beaches and then return to a virtually empty pool in the early evening. We didn't try the restaurant or bar in the hotel, just used it for somewhere to sleep really.
The Beaches...Directly across from the hotel is a road that leads down to some steep steps and to a fabulous beach with beautiful golden sand and one or two little coves to hide in if you are early enough. If you prefer, you can take the courtesy bus (free of charge) from the hotel to the Old Town of Albufeira and the much larger fisherman's beach. This has a fabulous jetty that sticks well out into the sea that is full of teenage kids jumping and diving in. Great fun.
The Strip...This is the lively area of Albufeira, where all the bars and discos are. Very lively, very busy but is well away from the hotel and the old town so you wouldn't even know it was there unless you head for it. The bars and discos are interspaced with lots of restaurants and it is popular with families of all ages. It doesn't really get lively till after midnight and even then it's not full of lager swilling british yobs. Lots of local kids aswell having a great time. One thing I think the local authorities should consider is closing down the road on a night time. There are just too many people trying to squeeze by on the narrow paths.
The Old Town...Undergoing a bit of a makeover at the moment, lots of work on roads and buildings. This will look fabulous eventually I am sure, they sure are pumping an awful lot of money into the area. However, it is still a really great place to visit, lots of bars and restaurants and a lovely square.
All in all one of our best holidays to date. I have been known to slate venues in the past when they deserve it, but not this one.
