Baia Grande is a lovely hotel, recommended to me by my friend who used to stay there prior to purchasing her own villa in Gale.
My stay was for 3 nights.
Room comfortable, land view, which looked into a hedge at the side of the hotel. Not good.
The hotel advised my web booking site that dinner was Euro 20 per night and I could pay locally. When I arrived it was Euro 22.50! The way the Hotel word their dinner menu needs improving - would YOU order "Kale Cabbage Soup" as a starter?? I just didn't eat dinner in the restaurant. The menu was totally un-inspiring and I refused to pay inflated prices for a la carte dining. Another grump, who wants to pay Euro 4.50 for a single cup of tea or for a bowl of chips at the poolside bar? I found myself just ordering one item from room service and a glass of wine - again, I found vino expensive whether it was by the glass Euro 4.50-7 or by the bottle.
My biggest grip is this.
When the hotel has a group of Germans in the hotel for a welcome drink, please assign them a separate room where it is just themselves. I was having a quiet drink in the cocktail bar, minding my own business - only to be moved along in my seat to make way for 20+ Germans who all come in and order their Schnaps courtesy of their representative and generally take up the whole of the lower area of the Cocktail Bar. Their representative had the cheek to ask me if I had paid for my drink! So I said "Yes, have YOU?" Appalling unacceptable behaviour.
I went to the bar, explained that I had effectively been removed from my armchair and asked if I could have another glass of wine at happy hour price. Instead of charging me Euro 4.50 I was charged Euro 7 AND it wasn't that brilliant.
Three members of staff need to be complimented on their service skills; Dora in Reception, couldn't do enough to help; Luciano and Elsa at the poolside bar - two lovelier people you couldn't wish to meet.
Would I stay here again - well the Hotel would have to go some way to persuade me.
I used to be a Sales Manager for The Hotel Guide AG in Zurich, so I know what I'm talking about. Janet A, Shropshire, UK 19th October 2011.
