“Mixed Feelings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Baia Grande is a lovely hotel, recommended to me by my friend who used to stay there prior to purchasing her own villa in Gale.
My stay was for 3 nights.
Room comfortable, land view, which looked into a hedge at the side of the hotel. Not good.
The hotel advised my web booking site that dinner was Euro 20 per night and I could pay locally. When I arrived it was Euro 22.50! The way the Hotel word their dinner menu needs improving - would YOU order "Kale Cabbage Soup" as a starter?? I just didn't eat dinner in the restaurant. The menu was totally un-inspiring and I refused to pay inflated prices for a la carte dining. Another grump, who wants to pay Euro 4.50 for a single cup of tea or for a bowl of chips at the poolside bar? I found myself just ordering one item from room service and a glass of wine - again, I found vino expensive whether it was by the glass Euro 4.50-7 or by the bottle.
My biggest grip is this.
When the hotel has a group of Germans in the hotel for a welcome drink, please assign them a separate room where it is just themselves. I was having a quiet drink in the cocktail bar, minding my own business - only to be moved along in my seat to make way for 20+ Germans who all come in and order their Schnaps courtesy of their representative and generally take up the whole of the lower area of the Cocktail Bar. Their representative had the cheek to ask me if I had paid for my drink! So I said "Yes, have YOU?" Appalling unacceptable behaviour.
I went to the bar, explained that I had effectively been removed from my armchair and asked if I could have another glass of wine at happy hour price. Instead of charging me Euro 4.50 I was charged Euro 7 AND it wasn't that brilliant.

Three members of staff need to be complimented on their service skills; Dora in Reception, couldn't do enough to help; Luciano and Elsa at the poolside bar - two lovelier people you couldn't wish to meet.
Would I stay here again - well the Hotel would have to go some way to persuade me.
I used to be a Sales Manager for The Hotel Guide AG in Zurich, so I know what I'm talking about. Janet A, Shropshire, UK 19th October 2011.

Dear Mrs Janet A. Shropshire,
Thank you very much for your comments about Baia Grande.
We have been charging the price of 22.50 euros for more than a year. The value of 20.00 euros is not correct. I would appreciate if you could send me a private e-mail with the name of your web booking so that I can chase this issue.
Regarding the restaurant you are entitled to your most valued opinion. I would like to point out that our client’s survey, and general comments, consistently, show the quality of our buffet.
The cocktail you mention was not organized by the hotel. If a group of persons, German or other nationality, wants to have a drink in the bar they can do it. I apologise that in this instance they disturbed you.
We have different prices for different wines. We have lower prices for wines, by the glass, than the ones you mention. I am sure that there is some misperception about this issue.
I thank you your complements about our staff members
Once more let me show gratitude your comments about our hotel.
I hope to see you soon back at Baía Grande
Kind Regards
Paulo Dias

“OUR THIRD STAY”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

our third stay here and we were not dissapointed lovely hotel and friendly staff especially Elsa never been in october before and it was nice and quiet round the pool, dissapointed with the sunbeds not very comfortable at all. also dissapointed that the courtesy bus still stops at seven every evening. having read other reviews and the responses we would have thought that the hotel would have put a later bus on however didnt spoil a thing as a taxi into albufeira is only 6-7 euros. we will certainly be back in the near future

Dear Client,
Thank you very much for your time to review Baia Grande,
October can be a very pleasant month for a relaxed vacation. We still have the good weather without the disadvantages of August and early September.
We take great care with our sunbeds. I am sure that some are more comfortable than others. On you next visit please try our swing sunbeds, they are excellent.
I do understand our client’s wishes to prolong the courtesy shuttle bus after 7 pm. At the moment the courtesy bus is an open issue.
I hope to see you soon back at Baía Grande
Kind Regards
Paulo Dias

“OUR 9TH STAY AT THE BAIA GRANDE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

We try and fit in a stay at the Baia Grande at least once a year as we enjoy it so much. We have just returned from a nine day holiday and, as always, had a wonderful time. Our stay is made so much more enjoyable by the friendliness of the staff who always take the trouble to make you feel so welcome - nothing is too much trouble for them.

There are a lot of nice beaches to vist where you can have lunch and a drink before relaxing - rabbit beach is less than a mile from the hotel and there is a short cut as you turn left out of the hotel car park. There are also nice restaurants within walking distance of the hotel if you decide to go bed and breakfast or you can catch the hotel courtesy bus into town where there are lots of restaurants too.

We always have a sea view room and can tell you it is a beautiful view. We have been very lucky to have had great weather during this stay which has made our holiday all the more enjoyable. I am sure we will be back again next year.

Room Tip: Rooms on level 3 with a sea view are worth requesting.

“Excellent hotel in a quiet location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

We've just spent a lovely 2 weeks at Baia Grande, hot sunshine everyday 24/9/11 to 08/10/11. Staff are very friendly and efficient. Swimming pools are cleaned everyday, usual temperature is 23C which feels a bit cold initially after sunbathing in the 30C hotspots around the pools. Food was of very good quality and much of it to be had, the evening meal would be better complemented with a cup of coffee, instead this has to be purchased separately in the lounge upstairs. This hotel is set in a quiet location outside Albufeira, so night-time taxis are needed after 8pm for the 5 mins trip into/out of town. 2 nice clean beaches are closeby: the Rabbit beach is nearest and has a great beach cafe plus bar, and toilets/showers, etc. The other beach, Sao Rafael, is bigger with larger restaurant & facilities, which is a 20 mins walk away. Both beaches have 2 lifeguards, and shaded spots. To hire 2 sunbeds & a brolley is a ridiculous €15/day, so most people used large beach towels. Fortunately the sunbeds & brolleys were free back at the hotel. Evening cabaret 8:30pm Tues-Sat only, in the lounge can be a bit boring after 2-3 nights, except for the Saragossa girl group who sang late into the night with much applause, well done girls. Other musicians were, well, playing to recorded backings. Bar prices for alcohol were very pricy, they would sell more if the prices came down, then the musicians might have sounded better!
Very clean hotel, take a bathing cap for the indoor pool, this means men too. There are some shops & street/bar restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. I think more could be done with the hotel's small shop, which seemed to be basic.

Room Tip: Get a seaview room, the views are stunning. All rooms have large enough balconies to sit out.
