Just back from a months stay in the Oura Praia Hotel staying in a one bedroomed apartment during late December too mid January. The hotel is keep very clean as was our room with sheets towls changed every few days eventhough we were staying self catering. Did not use the restaurants or the gym or sauna but did spend time around the pool on the sunbeds. Drinks from pool bar far too dear and did not see anybody use this service.Used the free wireless internet but like a few other people had trouble getting on line , you could pay to use a different service in your room but again far far far too dear or pay to use the PC's in the reception area, you only got free wifi in this area not in your room.
Our room at the back of the hotel was very nice with little touches like a fireplace and ornaments that made it feel more like home than a hotel room. Well equiped for selfcatering that most of the other long stay guests use to save on eating out costs, we had microwave, kettle, toaster plus pots pans etc.Bathroom was very large with both bath and shower (over bath).
On arival we found that the flat screen tv did not work properly and the staff changed it for a different one in half hour, great servive on a Sunday night.
Not too far a walk to the beach as you can walk through the grounds of a sister hotel that is right on the very pleasant beach but you do get the beach sellers trying to sell you African animals, sunglasses etc and they can be a pain.
During our stay the hotel had workmen painting the outside and working inside on some rooms and this could have been a problem to some guests due to drilling and banging etc. It did cause problems with car parking and later in the season with many more rooms full it would be a hard job to find a space to park with or without the workers vans as the car park is far too small for the number of rooms.
Reception staff are helpfull and is open 24 hours, cleaners etc all work hard to keep hotel nice and clean.Just outside the hotel is a supermarket with a good range of food stuffs plus many bars and restaurants with meals from about 10 euros.
We found the Algarve a great place for walking and birdwatching/photography but watch out for the motorway tolls.
