Olhos Do Mar Apartments are basic and comfortable, a little out dated but at least there is a little of the old portugal there as everywhere else has lost that old world magic which portugal used to hold. There are building works being carried out directly next to the swimming pool, a complete building is going up, you can see it and you can hear it. If you are lying by the pool no peace will be found at present, the workmen can oversee you around the pool, although polite and no problem it can make you feel a bit like your being watched, they start work around 8am and do not stop until 7pm!! Sometimes there is a peaceful period in the afternoons, they were not there on sunday.
Our tour operator did not specify that works were being carried out, if they had we would not have booked there. But there seems to be works going on almost everywhere in what used to be a sleepy fishing village, the beach is adorable with lots of locals using it, to the right there is a wonderful restuarant on stilts, overlooking the sea, if you walk to the left you can reach the main falesia beach in half an hour and also on the rocks as you walk you can see the eye of the sea, which is a fresh water spring coming out of the sand! (thats the name of the the town too), the weather was fantastic every day, most of the restaurants were wonderful especially the goldofi, sorry that is not the correct spellling but its on the way to the beach. overall the holiday was really great, not much night life in this town other than the Cabana Bar which is a really nice local bar, if you sit outside you can see geko`s climbing around the sign. If you want crazy nightlife a 3-4 euro taxi ride takes you to albufeira new town. I would not stay at the apartments again because of the building works but if they had not been going on it would have been a comfortable place to stay, with an adorable receptionist whos broken english was excellant, much better than my portuguese. Happy Holidays!
