good: close to the main strip and the beach, clean apartment, lovely views from the balcony, internet access,tv available, kitchen was clean all appliances working, all pools clean...indoor very shallow..good for younger children. helpful staff, lovely beach and loads of bars righ on the beach,

bad: very basic rooms, lady at the front desk needs a lesson in customer service, bar was closed out of season...we went in november and most of the shops/ attractions were closed, expensive to use internet, the apartments look like high rise block of flats, the lift/ stairway area is very very basic, the walls and floor are stone...
this hotel is great if you are on a budget and are not looking for anything luxurios...it doesnt pretend to be something its not, so you get what you pay for, we had a nice time but it would have made a big difference if we went in the summer

I visited Portugal and stayed here in June 2011 with some friends. The apartments are basic but clean and comfortable. The cleaners came in everyday and were very friendly, they left us plenty of towels and plenty of loo roll! The pools are lovely and clean and there are plenty of sun loungers, however it is 1 euro to rent a mat for the loungers but it was no biggy! Umbrellas are free which i'm rather glad about as i burnt! It is about a 15-20 min walk away from the town center but again no biggy if you like walking. Staff are all very friendly! We had a fab time and would stay there again!

Have just returned from a 4 night stay at Janelas do Mar for a total spend of 54 Euro what a great deal the rooms were clean and comfortable (make sure you ask for sunny side) and the weather was great,Although the facilities were not open except the indoor pool it's a short walk into town and there is an Irish bar across the road which is cheap and chearful.

Really can't understand the negative comments about the place and the people moaning about the little hill of about 200 mtrs I say get a life, bus stop right outside if you need it and a great little bus service.I would certainly recomend this Hotel and would come back again

We stayed at this hotel until 17th December and we really enjoyed our stay.As it was in December there was not a lot to do in the hotel but that didnt worry us. Our stay was very comfortable and the limited number of staff were very good. There were 2 lifts in the lobby which were always working. Just across the road was a service bus stop,buses were running frequently. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and would return, but bearing in mind we did not sample the food as we ate in differant places( bus excursions etc)
Another thing which was very good was, in the room was all details about room cleaning rotas etc. Plenty of car parking spaces outside the hotel see photo
