Normally for those that have followed my more intensive and unbiased opinions elsewhere, I would go into as much detail as possible however, this will be one of my more general reviews. I will not comment on who I booked with etc, etc but just how I found the hotel.
Went with a lady friend/partner for a three night break for a birthday celebration. Asked for a room at the time of booking with a double bed but this did not happen. Asked reception about this and they said they "only had one room with a double bed and that was occupied" (yes I know what you are thinking).
Before I go into the hotel specifics I should perhaps point out that the hotel and the shops etc in the immediate area were all starting to close down for the end of the season as was the hotel or at least this was the impression.
Ok in the timely manner I adopt... straight question = straight answer.
Was the room clean? Yes.
Was the room cleaned each day efficiently? No. All that happened was the beds were made and fresh towels. No floor cleaning, no cups, glasses cleaned or removed.
Was the room hot/cold? Very damp with accompanying smell, no heating and after 24 hours our clothes in the wardrobe were damp.
Were the beds comfortable? Bordering on the hard side but again the dampness prevailed so no, not comfortable.
Bathroom/shower good or bad? Very good bath and powerful shower and lots of hot water although this could have been because the hotel was almost empty so not much hot water demand.
Kettle and fridge in the room provided (no tea or coffee supplied in the room) and in the case of the fridge this was very efficient and a good size.
Breakfast was very, very basic even by continental standards and most things had run out after the first hour of opening.
Hot water for tea at breakfast was from the coffee machine so it was warm enough for coffee but not tea (not unusual around European hotels of this grading).
Noise.... the walls are very, very thin so you hear everything next door (which is sometimes interesting).
The door to the (very small) balcony in the room leaked and let the rain in.
There were a lot of other negatives with this hotel in general but a lot of these are really down to the time of year and the winding down scenario.
I would think that in the warmer season/high season that the hotel services it guests better and I would think the food standard and variety may improve.
Having said all that, the hotel is (as others have said) in a great location with the beach and lots and lots and lots of shops and restaurants very nearby but if you have trouble walking this may not be the hotel for you as there are many steep roads where ever you want to go.
Worthy of three stars??? Possibly during the normal season but not for our stay so giving the hotel the benefit of the doubt then, yes, worthy of three stars, just.
There are other hotels nearby with the same rating which are actually cheaper.
Would I stay there again in the high season?
For location... yes.
For standard of service... no.
For comfort... no (I know we are not living in the room but the time we do spend in the room should be comfortable).
And a big no because of the noise.
In conclusion, the staff were friendly and helpful but it was perhaps the wrong time of year for us to be staying at this particular hotel and I am sure that with the exception of the noise from adjacent rooms, that during the normal season this would be a good base for many but I just feel it needs to price itself more responsibly for the lower/end of the season.
Most of the other "advertised facilities" were closed due to the winding down process which in all honesty as a very seasoned traveller, I have come to expect.
Had we been staying more than three nights because of the dampness alone we would have chenged hotels.
As always if there are any questions, please email me.
