I just returned from a Self-Catering week at the Alfagar Village. The Village is actually now attached to a large hotel complex situated on the main road, in front of the village. I would have given this hotel 'Good' rating if there was an option but 'Very Good' would have been too generous!
Good Points: As a Self-Catering customer, the room was large and spacious, clean and more than adequate for our needs. The village is nice, well decorated and well maintained. There are several lovely pools for use (although in October they were FREEZING to the point of being too cold to swim in). The village has a nice atmosphere and feels quite safe and there are a couple of places on the complex that you can get drinks and snacks from. The complex in general is nice and relaxing and staff are generally helpful.
Negative points: Town, for food, drinks etc, is a good 15-20 min walk and the road is not lit, so a taxi back (after dark) is advisable. There was not much entertainment going on at the hotel, maybe due to the time of year, but nevertheless, made for a dull evening. The area is very hilly, so not recommended for the elderly, but for the young, great for gentle excercise.Food and drinks at the hotel and, in the region are not particularly cheap but you can get good variety. The TVs in the room only have a few channels, which change daily, and the signal is not good.
Overall, this is a nice hotel and quite a nice experience, but sadly, there are plenty of little things that will niggle you about the hotel and the area.
Room Tip: Ask for a sea view. They are not guaranteed, but are a fabulous bonus to the trip!
