I was last in this hotel 14 years ago. I thought its location was superb, and always meant to return. Its location is still superb. Every room has a balcony facing the sea, because it is built into the cliff. It is on the edge of the beach. The reception area, bar, and restaurant are on the fifth floor, with a stunning balcony all along the front. It faces south, so has the most beautiful sunrises, and the sunsets cannot be described. In between, the hotel gets sunshine all day, and only the slightest of breezes. In fact, it is in a real, natural sun trap. Go outside, and you are in the narrow cobbled, hilly town of Albufeira.
The staff are wonderful. They are kind, friendly, efficient, and go out of their way to be nice.
The towels are thick and soft, and changed daily. The beds are comfortable. The bed linen is absolutely beautiful. The hotel is spotlessly clean. The shower was powerful, the bath was low enough to be easy to get in and out of. The bathroom was big. There was a room with free internet. The pool table near the bar was free.
That's it. The hotel is tired. Tired? It is geriatric. We walked into our bedroom and could have walked back out. What we thought were cobwebs, were pieces of wall paper, or plaster hanging from the ceiling and walls. There was air conditioning. There was a telly. A smallish table was there under a wall mirror. We had to ask for a hair drier. Four star it certainly is not.
Most people ate out in the local restaurants, but we had booked H/B so ate in. I loved the food, It was fresh, well cooked, never left on the buffet table for long without being freshened, but my two sisters thought it was pretty poor.
Would I go back? In a heart beat. Would my sisters? Never.
I believe you get what you pay for, and this is cheap.
It is part of a group of hotels, so why on earth do they not do it up?
Albufeira was quiet. Quiet! It was like a ghost town. This hotel was fully booked when we were there. So that tells you something.
