“Nicest Staff!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I was last in this hotel 14 years ago. I thought its location was superb, and always meant to return. Its location is still superb. Every room has a balcony facing the sea, because it is built into the cliff. It is on the edge of the beach. The reception area, bar, and restaurant are on the fifth floor, with a stunning balcony all along the front. It faces south, so has the most beautiful sunrises, and the sunsets cannot be described. In between, the hotel gets sunshine all day, and only the slightest of breezes. In fact, it is in a real, natural sun trap. Go outside, and you are in the narrow cobbled, hilly town of Albufeira.
The staff are wonderful. They are kind, friendly, efficient, and go out of their way to be nice.
The towels are thick and soft, and changed daily. The beds are comfortable. The bed linen is absolutely beautiful. The hotel is spotlessly clean. The shower was powerful, the bath was low enough to be easy to get in and out of. The bathroom was big. There was a room with free internet. The pool table near the bar was free.
That's it. The hotel is tired. Tired? It is geriatric. We walked into our bedroom and could have walked back out. What we thought were cobwebs, were pieces of wall paper, or plaster hanging from the ceiling and walls. There was air conditioning. There was a telly. A smallish table was there under a wall mirror. We had to ask for a hair drier. Four star it certainly is not.
Most people ate out in the local restaurants, but we had booked H/B so ate in. I loved the food, It was fresh, well cooked, never left on the buffet table for long without being freshened, but my two sisters thought it was pretty poor.
Would I go back? In a heart beat. Would my sisters? Never.
I believe you get what you pay for, and this is cheap.
It is part of a group of hotels, so why on earth do they not do it up?
Albufeira was quiet. Quiet! It was like a ghost town. This hotel was fully booked when we were there. So that tells you something.

Room Tip: I do not think there are any..

“Dont stay here”

We arrived after a 220 mile drive and after locating hotel parked just outside on a no parking area ......nowhere else to park. The hotel recpetionst was at the entrance telling me i couldnt park there. I told her we were booking in. After a wait of at lease 30 mins including a 10 min walk after parking the car we were given the room key. The view from the room was excellent but that was the high point. The decor & fixtures in the room were dated, the bath taps felt like they would come of if you used them, the ceiling had water marks as had the b'room walls. The entire hotel was in dire need of a complete refurbish. This hotel is rated 4* how i dont no, i would give it a 1* for the view. We decided not to stay. We went and paid our bill in full as the recpetionist insisted they had already paid the company we had booked through. We stayed at the excellent 3* roc e mar instead.

“Fabulous Location”

We stayed here for 7 nights, 2nd/9th January at a cost of £137 each H/B. Each room has a sea view and fridge and we had the best weather ever for this time of year. The sunrise/sets were beautiful. Must be so hot in the summer. This hotel has NO car parking but we did not find it a problem at this time of year, always found a place about 250 yards away UP a hill past the church.
At first we found the breakfast/dinner to be excellent but it seemed to deteriate, don't know why. Very sameness with little choice. Raw burgers! tinned veg! jelly desert! no cheese and biscuits.
Lovely staff though. Bar had a different cocktail of the day each day but they always tasted the same with a wedge of kiwi on the side? (poor bar man!)
There was a man playing a keyboard most evenings and some older couples used to take to the floor. This was the only entertainment or a TV screen.
This hotel has a 4* location but only just passes as a 3*.

“Just as good”

Just spent our second Christmas at the Sol E Mar. Just as good as our first visit. Fantastic seaview, large warm comfortable room. Cleaned everyday including Xmas day! As returning guests we were given a basket of fruit and a bottle of water. A really nice gesture. Ideal location for the Old Town, a two minute walk to the square and the eateries and bars. Walk out of the rear entrance straight on to the beach(which is cleaned every night) Only had bed and breakfast which was adequate with plenty of selection. Friendly welcoming staff and a special mention to Louis the barman who's always laughing and joking and makes a fantastic Bloody Mary!!

Room Tip: No bad rooms. each room overlooks the sea
