“Perfect location. All round great holiday.”
My fiance and myself have just returned from a fantastic week of glorious sunshine in early February and can not fault this hotel in the slightest.
Having read some of the negative reviews I have to say I pretty much dismissed these as I don't go on holiday to spend time in the hotel, and some of the reviews were just plain unreasonable. I can't comment on the food, we went room only as we like to eat somewhere different every day. Fair enough the rooms are basic but are lacking none of the essentials, having a fairly standard kitchen area, good bathroom (with great shower... something which has been lacking in hotels of supposedly higher standard), good standard of cleanliness (someone complained on here that the bedding wasn't changed all week... how often do you change your bed at home?!... and if you'd just asked the maid she'd have happily obliged). Our room (206 block D) was huge for two people, had a wonderful sea view balcony with gorgeous sunsets every night and was a suntrap from midday to sun down... it's unheard of for me to spend any time in hotel during the day, but I couldn't resist a couple of hours on that balcony every day! And the sound of the sea lapping against the beach at night more than made up for the slight sound heard from the lift that others have complained about (this was an occasional feint buzz and not in the least intrusive).
Check in was quick (I detected no strange smell in reception), staff polite and helpful throughout the week. The key fob thing (people have complained was 'too small'... come on, it was more substantial than my own house key, god knows how these people cope at home!!) was fine, much better than fiddling around with a normal key or carrying around a keycard and the small deposit for room key pretty standard in a lot of places I've stayed, though the key did refuse to work on one occasion, which was rectified in literally a second by the lady on reception.
Having checked in late the first thing I wanted was a drink so thought we'd be stuck in the hotel bar, having read reviews stating you couldn't take drinks out. The staff had no problem letting us take a few beers to our room so we could settle in. Hotel bar was a little pricey but no more so than many of the bars in town.
If I had to find one negative it would be beds. We both slept very well on them but being a couple we either had to snuggle up in one single (which isn't anything to complain about really, we are both slim enough to fit and enjoy cuddles!) or push the two together, which really isn't a good option as sooner or later one of us was bound to slip into cold, tiled gap in the middle... hint - take a couple of short straps to tie the bed legs together. This is a small niggle as I've stayed in many hotels with the same problem.
All in all if you're thinking of booking here go for it. I've stayed in far worse 3 star accommodation all over Europe and even here in the UK. Ignore the negative reviews on here as I really don't know what the reviewers were expecting. For the price (we paid 90GBP for the week, I've paid double that for one night back home) I really didn't expect much but we were both absolutely delighted with what we got.
We're returning to the algarve in May with friends but staying in Praia Da Rocha instead, sadly I've not been able to find a hotel as well situated as Auramar. Right on the beach, 5 mins to the strip, 10 mins lovely walk along the beach to town, the hotel could not possibly be in a better location. We will definitely book here again if we return to Albufeira.
Room Tip: Room 206D highly recommended. Seemed much larger than another room we saw, close to the entrance, in...
