The hotel is a small well run hotel with a friendly staff. The rooms are somewhat small, but adequate in size. Our room 202 had a small balcony with a great view of the castle and the cross ventilation helped make a warm September more pleasant. The breakfasts are great, real scrambled eggs and great breads as well as the normal European fare of meats, cheese, etc.

We stayed here as part of a 10 day tour of Portugal. The hotel was arranged by our travel agent and we were delighted with her choice. it is such a quaint hotel with lots of character. Our room was spacious enough, but the view!! It was simply stunning. We had a 180 deg view of the world which just took my breath away. The owners were so lovely, very little English, but eager to help in any way.

We were absolutely enchanted with Marvao and the view from our hotel room. The room was a superior valley view room. If you are over 55 and book directly, the hotel offers a discount. We found the place more than adequate. Our bed was fine - firm mattress and seemed very solid to us. The breakfast was very good as well. We eat dinner here and both got the special, my wife the golden cod and I got migas and pork ribs. The cod was the better choice. I was underwhelmed by the pork ribs but glad to try migas. Marvao was our favorite country spot in Portugal.

The decor in the rooms seemed more "Adirondack Hunting Lodge" than historic Portugal, but the Dom Emanuel is very comfortable and clean, has a spacious parking area, and is wonderfully situated for exploring Marvao, an historic walled town way up on a mountain-top, with gardens and a beautiful castle. The restaurant seemed attractive (generic continental decor), although we ate elsewhere. Staff was helpful. Elevators available for those with lotsa luggage. Price excellent.
