“Nice but uncomfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

The hotel is nicely located in the Evora historical center and has free private parking. The building is charming, being an ancient typical house of the alentejo which has been renovated. The welcome is warm and smiling. We had a double room with private bathroom. The room was quite big but I don't like bedrooms with "azulejos" (wich seem to be quite common in portuguese pensions) cause they make me feel as I was sleeping in a bathroom! The bathroom (the real one!) was very small, the shower was minimum size and uncomfortable, and the plate had holes in the ceramic that were dark and oxidated and made it look like dirty. Cleaness was not bad but could be better. The worst thing, that prevents me from recommending this hotel, is the quality of sleep: I almost couldn't sleep and in the morning I had pain all over my back and neck because the mattress was an ancient spring mattress and I had several broken springs piercing all over my body, and the pillow was a pillowcase full with woolen balls which I just refused to use. The breakfast was poor as well. Coffee, milk or tea, bread (which you couldn't even toast) and marmalade. Overall, I don't think it's worth the price.

“Lovely Hotel in Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

We loved the location of the historic and charming hotel. The location in the middle of the medieval town was within walking distance of all historic sites in the city and a short taxi ride from the bus station. We really enjoyed the experience of staying in the heart of an medieval town on a narrow cobblestone street in a building that maintained the character of the town while still being well cared for. The room was very comfortable with showers and sink in the room and shared bathroom facilities. The hotel staff was very helpful and set us up with bicycle rental for a half day bike trip around the surrounding countryside. The included breakfast was good, but not the best of our trip. Overall, an excellent value and charming environment!

“Charming place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

We used this charming hotel for an overnight stay whilst travelling through Portugal. It is in an excellent location close to the Cathedral and the Temple of Diana. It is a perfect base for seeing the highlights of Evora on foot. (Cobbled streets - flat shoes required) Lots of restaurants in the old town area. It is a very old building with lots of character. Our room was just off the reception with the shower and toilet facilities just opposite . There were 3 seperate bathrooms on the corridor.
Breakfast was available at the hotel if required. Free internet in the gallery on 1st floor and wifi accessible in the bedrooms.

Room Tip: Pay that little extra for an ensuite shower. There is a little road noise in the rooms off receptio...

“Old historic Pensao”

I liked our stay here very much. An old Duke's house from a long time ago that retains that charm. There is even a Roman column at reception that holds the ceiling up. We had a clean, comfortable, quiet room. Breakfast was simple but very enjoyable on the outdoor terrace with fresh rolls, ham, cheese etc. Family owned and they were very helpful and nice. Free parking as well which is a bonus in any city of size in Portugal or Spain. This is an old establishment but it is run well and is also interesting to explore. Highly recommend it. 50E for a nice double. Also, have dinner at El Fialho, an incredible restaurant with great food and atmosphere at an excellent price.

Room Tip: Some are en suite and some are not.
