After staying in a wonderful pousada in northern Portugal we had similar expectations for this pousada in Evora. While the location is superb and the building is spectacular, there are signs that things have been allowed to go for too long without attention in the rooms. Our first shock was the carpet which was frayed and threadbare in spots and very dirty and old. The decorative blankets at the end of the beds were also old and worn and the pillows were also old and misshapen. The only chair in the room was sagging badly and almost impossible to sit in. I could go on, but in brief, let it be said that the room was in serious need of a makeover. The pool area as well, showed signs that refurbishment was needed. The pool is lovely, but the loungers and umbrellas were dirty and old looking. One last note- the hallways are very noisy and try to get a room that does not face the cathedral, which has a bell that marks the hour.
