Searching for a quiet and peaceful weekend with my wife I've chosen the first pousada to be established in Portugal, which history dates back to the 1940's. It's stays on the main road and only 10 minute walk from the center of the lovely walled city of Elvas in Alentejo. Common areas, hallways and rooms mantain the same1940's style. Our room was small but even though with space enough to rest and spend some quality time. You'll find a spacy bathroom and parking is not a problem as you park your car just inside the hotel ground.
The pousada's grounds are nice, having a pretty pool area and a very good restaurant, both for dinner and breakfast. We had two excellent dinners in the restaurant at a medium price of 20€ per meal, per person, including drinks. Although the breakfast is very good and complete we believe it could present more options. This kind of hotel is not an option for those how are used to travel in a "low-cost" basis, but it is undoubtedly a very good option if you want a first quality hotel and a very good relation between price/service. Thanks to all the pousada's staff who worked hard to assure us an excelent and absolutely relaxed stay. Stayed in Pousada de Santa Luzia for one weekend. Excellent service, with very nice and helpful staff.
The location could be better, but still is near enough of the city center.
The room were very comfortable and clean. The only problem is the furniture that is getting somewhat old. The curtains didn't closed very well and early in the morning the light invaded the room, which made me wake up before time.
The breakfast on the weekend has an extended time, only ending at 11am. Extra point for that.
Also tried the restaurant of the hotel for dinner. An excellent meal, with the complete menu just for 20€ (no beverage included), being well above the price as for quality goes.

I was in doubt which hotel to choose in Elvas. Then I got a promotion from the Pousada chain and I stayed at the Pousada. It was easy to reach by car and we had a lunch at the Pousada before exploring the town. The hotel looked like a hotel from the “60-ties” where not much had been done since then. Our room was Spartan. The whole hotel looked like a hotel which had been very nice 40 years ago But we had an OK night here and the staff was OK as well. The town of Elvas was very interesting with magnificent city walls. Not many tourist either. Please include Elvas in your visit in Alentejo (together with Evora). In the evening we dined at another hotel, Hotel S. João de Deus. We (and you) should have stayed there……….

me and my boyfriend stayed at "Pousada de Santa Luzia" for a weekend in May 2009. It may look a little old on the outside, but the rooms are lovely decorated and clean, the staff is very pleasant and the breakfast very complete. We would recomend it.
