“Good hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2010

Recently returned from a short break holiday to Ostende. The hotel was a bit further from town than one we stayed at on a previous trip but still within walking distance. The hotel was good and the rooms were comfortable & roomy. Very clean. The buffet breakfasts were excellent but the evening meal was only mediocre. We all found the meat (various kinds) were tough and one night uneatable. Drinks in the hotel bar were on a par with other places. On the whole - a good holiday.

“In need of urgent updating”

Good points - Clean room, decent breakfast and good pricing.
Bad points - Very old fashioned, disastrous car parking facilities, shabby area.

Conclusion - If this was Bulgaria in the 1970s then the hotel would of been fine. However, it looks like a hotel that is desperately trying not to refurbish despite the obvious need. The parking arranges were awful. Very difficult to park anywhere nearby and the free car park across the road is jammed full with cars that wont move. However, it was clean which is very important. Would I go back? I very much doubt it.

“not too bad !!”

Hubby and i are just back from Belgim on an overnight trip, we had booked into the Royal astrid. I would pre book the car park as the street parking is impossible and cost 3 euro for 4 hours with no return.
There is a public car park to the right of the hotel which is free and we were VERY lucky to get a space after waiting for 40mins.
Our room was basic, clean and served its purpose as we dumped the case and set off to explore. The beach and promenade are a few mins walk away and it was busy and very clean.
Turn right when you get to the promenade and walk for around 10 mins till you get to the big casino cursaal then turn right again. This takes you to the main shopping and eating area where there is lots of places to choose from. Prices vary considerably though so shop around.
Back to the hotel took around 20 mins walk.
The beds are comfy and the bathroom adequate however if you are more than 5 foot 7 you might struggle to stand under the shower !!
Breakfast was nice with the usual breads, cereal, fruits, eggs, bacon and cold meats.
Coffee and tea is self service from a machine.
All in all not a bad budget hotel if you get it for the right price ( we paid 67 euros on line ) for the room b&b.

“A Value For Money Budget Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2009

Having recently spent 4 nights half-board accommodation at the Astrid, I found the hotel pleasant if not charming. Although it is situated adjacent to the promenade/beach in a quiet area it's a good 15-20 minutes walk to the harbour area & 'the life'. However, also adjacent is a tram stop two halts away from the harbour. (all day tickets 5€ can be purchased at the general store near the tram stop).
Internet access is available free but not advertised - reception will direct potential users.
Breakfast 08.00-10.00hrs excellent, evening meal adequate but without choices.
Rooms clean & spacious.

“a good base for a tour and near the beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2009

A large clean room, and a good variety of food at the buffet breakfast. No choice for evening meal, but I got my veggie burger. Nothing wrong with the hotel, clean and staff polite. Just a few minutes from the promenade, and about 15 minutes to Wappenplein. Mostly elderly people, some of us a bit younger on our tour. Would recommend as a good tour base.
