“Beautiful views of the canal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Nice and quiet hotel located on the right bank of the canal about 7/8 blocks from the historic center of Bruges. I think something that sets it apart is its architecture similar to an old castle but inside is a modern hotel, although some sectors would need repairs. The rooms are more spacious than the average in Brudge, same for the bathroom, some of which have beautiful views of the canal. The breakfast buffet is plentiful, varied and well served. The staff is within the standards of its class. I think in summary is a good hotel for those who prefer the tranquility and beautiful views of the canal.

Room Tip: Try to book a room on the new sector of the hotel

“ideal for a short break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

stayed here in December 2011 for the christmas markets. slightly out of the main town area, but still a walkable distance. pleasant hotel, and staff very helpful and friendly. breakfast is a must as a good selection of fresh produce. bed very comfy. no evening meal is served in the hotel and we discovered that all the popular restaurants are booked up in advance. worth booking as soon as you arrive during popular periods. lovely little boutique restaurant across the river opposite the hotel. pricy but very good food. car parking on the street outside the hotel. ask for a permit at reception - its only a couple of euros and they will re set it for you if you need them to.

Room Tip: there is a lift to upstairs rooms. some face onto the canal.

“Dirty dirty dirty.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

We stayed in room 110 on the first floor for 3 nights. Supposed to be a 4 star executive suite.

The staff were lovely and very helpful. The rooms were very large. That's about all the good points.

Now for the bad points. I felt to complain whilst staying at the hotel, but felt that my complaints were so vast that there was no point, because there would have been nothing the lovely staff could have done. Fundamental problems with ever aspect of the room and the hotel.

The walls were very dirty, hand prints, dirty smudges, very worn. The carpets were old and dirty. All the decor was worn and needs refurbishment. Not 4 star.

All the bathroom fixtures were dirty with mold! and needs to be replace or at least deep cleaned. The waist pipes were filthy with mold. The sink taps, bath taps, shower head and hose were filthy. There was a smell of rotten eggs from the sink waiste pipe when used in the morning. There was yellow mold on most of the bathrooms finishing.

There was a kitchenet but no table to eat any food off of. There were Lots of chairs to go around the table that was not there.

The garden view was pointless and over looked the dinning area down stairs.
The location of both flat screen tv was very bad.

The bedroom tv was to far from the bed. The living room tv was at the end of the sofa. Both tv,s should have been on the walls in better locations.

The safe did not work, I made the staff aware of it and was told I could store my belongings in the hotel safe. I paid for a room safe, so it should have been replaced. It should also have been checked before I checked into the hotel.

The breakfast was adequate.

The Beday was broken, again this should have been checked before we checked in.

The noise from the other rooms was very bad, we heard water running doors slamming, people talking and alsorts of other noises.

This is the dirtiest hotel room I've ever stayed in, Hotels in Thailand and India included.

In closing, this is not a 4 star hotel. The room was very poor and needs to be refurbished. Give this place a miss and stay at the Bruges Marrot if you want true 4 star, not dirty Paris style 2 stars.

Like I said at the beginning I felt that complaining whilst I was there as pointless, this problems are fundamental and not cured overnight.

:-(

“Needs a remodel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

I specifically chose this hotel over the others because it looks like a little castle form the outside, with its brick facade and the little bridge. Even though it is kind of far from the center (10-15min walk), the location is alright. However, the inside was a little disappointing. I had a first floor room, so I heard every word any person spoke in the streets plus all the car noises. And since they have no air conditioning and it was summer, I had no choice but to keep the window open and struggle to sleep with all that noise. Besides that, all room furnishings are in need of a remodel. The bathroom, bed, tv, couch, nightstand, curtains... it's all too old and makes it look like the hotel management doesn't give a crap. On the good side, staff was very friendly and the breakfast buffet was absolutely delicious.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor are way too noisy.
