“Last minute find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We stayed one night at this hotel and wish we could have stayed more. We flew into Brussels and made the hour drive to Bruges. We had no reservations, there were three of us travelling together, and our first stop was the Hotel Casselburgh to see if they had rooms available. They did, but offered no last minute deals. I was a bit bummed, since the entrance was grand and I was looking forward to being pampered. We then went right across the street to the Hotel Malleberg, although not quite as grand, it was very cozy, a lot more friendly and comfortable.

We were visiting beginning of December, so not sure this area is always availalbe so last minute during high season. We got two rooms for an incredible rate, and we loved the place. It was a great location, walked everywhere. The owners are so nice and accomadating, especially since we had no reservations. The breakfast area is historic and the breakfast was delicious. There was internet service in the breakfast area which was helpful in getting directions to our next spot.

There are lots of cute options to stay, some on the water in Bruges, but I did not feel we were missing out by not being on the canals. The hotel is small and cozy, but the rooms are a very nice size. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a place with nice people, great breakfast and good value.

“Central and friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

Central location and very friendly and helpful staff/owner.

Room for four people on first floor towards the street was spacious and quiet at night. On a summernight with the windows open this might not be the case though, as it is very close to Markt and the street has lots of other hotels and a hostel.
As others have mentioned soundproofing between rooms (or rather bathrooms) is not very good, but we slept just fine.

Room and bathroom was simple, but fine.
Beds are comfortable and not too soft which is often a problem. Pillows are on the hard side.
Breakfast cellar is a nice room, but the selection is nothing special (and I am not a luxury traveller at all...) - adequate I would say.
Free wi-fi worked without issues, though not too fast.

The city is very pretty, which other tourists have also noticed...at least the centre was quite crowded on a December weekend, but that goes for lots of cities, just remember to book a table as the nicer restaurants are full.

Overall this hotel is highly recommended :-)

“Cosy friendly Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

We were given room 8, the topmost floor(attic), huge and spacious room with high ceiling, stunning decor !!!

Great service, very helpful and friendly host (family run hotel).

Location is the best, major tourist attractions are only 1-2 mins away.

Room Tip: Ask for the attic

“Lovely little hotel”

The staff were friendly and on hand when we first arrived at the hotel, when we returned late at night after dinner and drinks in bruges and again at breakfast. The hotel only has 8 rooms and as such they are kept to a high standard. Our room was comfortable and romantic, decorated in burgundy with open wood beams on the ceiling. Exactly as advertised when we booked it.
Breakfast is worth paying for, continental buffet style. Served in a lovely cellar room.
Excellent location for tourist attractions in the centre of Bruges. Would stay here again.

“A lovely quiet hotel in the historic centre of town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

We spent four nights in November and were really impressed by the size of the room, the location, and the continental breakfast service in the picturesque cellar. We had room 7 and climbing up the staircases was excellent training before tackling the 366 steps of the Belfort tower! The railway station is just a brisk half hour walk away (but don't take a wheeled trolley suitcase as it will bump against every cobble on the pavement!) If you're homesick for English telly then BBC2 is on channel 19, BBC1 is on channel 25.

We found some amazing places to eat but could never get into the landlord's recommended venue, Cambrinus, as it was always full with locals... however on the last evening we had our best meal to date at 'T Vagevuur, 43 St. Amandstraat, just off Markt. Prestige (12-14, Vlamingstraat) do wonderful afternoon High Teas in an upmarket, salon style setting, attached to a patisserie/chocolatier. Service in both these was excellent. Planning to return in 2012.

Room Tip: If you don't like stairs choose a lower numbered room or room 9 -there's no lift!
