We stayed at the Hotel Walburg over the Easter break. Bruges can be expensive for accommodation, especially if you want somewhere near the centre that is unique and not a chain hotel, and the Walburg wasn’t overly expensive and in a good location about 5min walk from the main square.
The hotel is in an imposing building, a former grand residence – all high ceilings, marble columns, elegant period décor in the communal areas – but it strangely lacks any warmth or atmosphere. The bedroom and bathroom were large. Some pictures on the wall, a few more furnishings or anything that would add some character wouldn't go amiss as it did feel like one big empty space that they didn’t know what to do with. Still, you’re not in Bruges to stay in your room! Walls were thin though – we could hear the ‘nocturnal activities’ of the couple next door.
There was a good choice of food at breakfast and service was fine. Not a bad choice if all the popular hotels are booked up, but I’d probably try and stay somewhere a bit more boutique-style next time.
