“Two star motel AT BEST”

Hotwire sometimes works wonders. This was not one of those times.

The hotel is NOT, I repeat NOT in Brugge. Whilst some people complain about this and I normally think "WTF, the hotel was close to the centre" this, sadly, can not be said of this hotel. Far enough away to require a taxi into town on a cold night, but close enough to charge "in town" prices, the ArtHotel (clearly not a part of the larger European chain) is a bog standard roadside motel.

Upon arrival, don't be surprised when you are charged a "room deposit" as opposed to just placing a card behind the desk. The rooms are tiny and haven't been updated since mid-last decade. Again, another hotel which thinks it appropriate to charge for water, you can not escape the feeling that this behemouth of a motel is charging for EVERYTHING in order to make up for their low visitor numbers.

The restaurant served acceptable food, but WAY overpriced for the lack of atmosphere.

All in all, if you are on the fence on this place, don't do it. BUT if you are looking for a personality defunct roadside motel in the middle of an industrial estate, well.... Welcome home.

Boo.

“Bog standard, nothing more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

On a trip across Europe this was my final stop before returning to the UK. The hotel was clean and the service good, but I felt it poor value and the breakfast (optional) came with a €17 price tag, which might be fine for business travellers, but no-one else. Location is not that great, and the parking costs and extra €10 (really ought to be free).

“Not very impressed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

Good location if you have your own transport. Food & drink expensive, though and we were disappointed to find that our double bed was in fact 2 singles which were joined together. That was ok, until they started separating in the middle of the night, leaving a gap that one of us could have fallen into!

No way of making a hot drink in the room, but we were prepared for that, so brought our own kettle and tea bags.

Bathroom also had signs of mould and there was a horrible smell of sewerage in the carpark.

“Spacious & Comfy”

Stayed 1 night on the way to Paris by car. While location wise is not very ideal - not within a reasonable walking distance to the city centre- the room is generous in size and comfortable. Very reasonable room rates & friendly staff.

Parking on site although not gratis - saw appeared to be free parking spaces outside hotel. Bathroom tile joints need to be scrubbed & re-grouted as they have seen better days.

Would recommend to travellers by cars, city centre is accessible by cars and there are heaps of not-too-expensive parking even in the city centre if you are in early.

“Suited our needs BUT”

The Apollo hotel was clean and friendly however there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Bar and Restuarant were expensive and over priced. Breakfast 17Euros???

The hotel did have some great things :

1. Play area for children in main lounge area. There was a selection of toys and things for them to play with. Great after a day out sight seeing.
2. Artwork around the hotel was lovely and great to look at.
3. Reception was friendly and helpful.

Negatives -
1. Expensive for anything else except the room. Rooms were well priced for Brugge.
2. Parking was 9Euros a day and it was out of town
3. Restaurant was pricey
4. Took a 50euros per day deposit off my card for hotel items such as food and drink andthen on departure they gave you the money back and didnt refund it off the card. Really didnt want a load of Euro just before we headed home. My expectation was to get the money returned to my card.

On the whole we found Belguim very expensive this across the board.
