“An Amazing Property!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

Hotel Egmond is an 18th century English Manor, right beside the beautiful Minnewater Park. While not right down town, Bruges, it is a short walk from the train station. It only takes 10-15 minutes to walk downtown, and the quiet of the park and the beauty of the inn are magic.

The owner has worked hard to create the charm of this place and we enjoy it very much, returning 3 years in a row. His breakfast is wonderful, there is free wi-fi, that even reaches the gardens and his 2 charming dogs are wonderful.

When staying in Bruges, we would never consider staying any place else!

“Disappointed. Two stars would be more than enough for this place.”

We booked this place after reading reviews on Tripadvisor. In fact the location is great, inside a beautiful park. We were very welcomed by the guy that was working at the reception and he provided us with a city map, information about restaurants and he also insisted to help us to carry our luggage from the car to the bedroom.

The good points ended here.

The bathroom is a joke. Small, ugly, outdated. I had never seen a smaller space to take a shower, even when we travel on cruise ships where the bathrooms are usually tiny.
This one is not only small, it is also unpleasant .

The bedroom is not comfortable by any means. The window is divided in two parts and one of them never can be shut due to a insect net. During our staying we got windy and cold weather (although it was Sept!) and to sleep at night we had to dress with our coats, as it was impossible to fully close the window.

I guess this "trick" of a window that never closes is due to dismiss the odor of dog pee. When we had the curtains fully closed, we were able to smell an odor of urine. As there are dogs circulating at the hotel, and I guess they do accept dogs, probably some dogs had already used the carpet as a pee place.

No way this hotel deserves 3 stars. Two stars would be more than enough.

Room Tip: I would not return to this place and I guess there are much better options. The city is small and ev...

“Lovely historic house in the Minnewater Park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

I'm a sucker for historic houses, and this was no disappointment. As soon as you step in, you feel the history in the walls. It's a perfect place to stay and really feels like you're in Brugge, which is like nowhere else. The staff was friendly and welcoming, including the two adorable dogs who stay at the hotel while their owner works the reception desk. Our room was nice and big. The furnishings were a little outdated and the "pod" style bathroom not exactly luxurious, but for the price, location, and charm, we loved it.
The breakfast was great, and if the weather had been better, we would have loved sitting in the courtyard in the evenings. The location was perfect for us--far from the crowds and peaceful.

“Charming place, good location on a lovely green park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2011

Breakfast was good, room was beautiful and huge (room #5), with view over lush garden that backs onto Minnewater Park. Nice walk into Markt at centre of Bruges. Greeted by receptionist's lovely two spaniels, that was a bonus. Recommend this hotel wholeheartedly!

Room Tip: Request room 5, it was perfect. And large!

“wonderful hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2011

Quiet historic house that has its own private gardens a few blocks walk from the main town. Our room, the garden room on 1st floor, was huge! Beautiful woodwork, fireplace with blue and white tiles, sitting area , huge windows, very very modern bathroom. It is on Minnewater Park and you can walk to the train station.

The private garden was wonderful--huge, many areas, seating, lovely

Breakfast was incredible, in a beautiful beautiful room that may have been a library at one time.

Romantic..we ate dinner several nights in the private garden with food purchased from a local market.... music on my iPhone form Pandora. What could be better!

Room Tip: all rooms unique, call for advice prior to trip
