Perfection!
If you haven't got time to read the finer details or pick up tips then that's fine. There is nothing about this hotel that doesn't tick all the boxes. Great location. Lovely friendly staff. Great breakfasts to set you up for the day. Stunning hotel. Cute rooms. Great service and really reasonably priced. My idea of a perfect city break hotel.
My boyfriend and I stayed here for a 3 night stay (Fri 20th - Mon 23rd Jan 2012) We booked a 3 night stay through a very well known British Sunday paper. We were pleasantly surprised at the cost as Eurostar, transfers, hotel stay with breakfast was all included.
My boyfriend called ahead to make sure we were staying in the original building and mentioned that it was our anniversary. I think the other buildings look out onto the street which is fine but we wanted total silence. However, I don't think they get traffic jams in Bruges anyways and there aren't enough cars passing to bother even the lightest sleeper. Upon arrival and check in the receptionist handed me a gorgeous box of Dumon Chocs and wished us a lovely stay on our anniversary. Yes, I know it was chocolates but little touches like that make the difference.
Our room was clean, cosy and the bed was very comfortable. Everything you need is here. After a walk around Bruges we headed back for a sauna and dip in the pool. Now beware, the pool isn't heated but just having a sauna made up for it. Certainly after lots of sightseeing. So take your swimming gear. They provide plenty of towels and toiletries so nothing is required.
The breakfast room is bright and airy and the buffet is well stocked. From cereal, fruit salad, yoghurts and grains, bowls of fresh fruit, a selection of jams and choc spreads, hams and cheeses, sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs and beans, loads of different breads (from sliced to rustic batons) and a waitress that would serve fresh coffee and hot water for your teas (normal and fruit/herbal) The waitress should get an added mention here as when we spoke about the hotel she knew alot of the history of it being an old school to the present day and also places to see in Bruges. She was also a very genuinely nice lady who greeted us with a smile every morning.
The hotel itself is stunning. The decor is modern and blends comfortably with the old building. It's fairly grand but not stuffy. Cosy and warm. Marble floors, tall windows letting in light, soft chairs and neutral colours. Very pleasing and chilled.
If you fancy a quick beer but really don't want to go far try Republik opposite. The hotel does have a bar but we didn't get a chance to sample it. The Republik is a funky bar with a mixed crowd. We went for a quick drink on Saturday afternoon and saw young parents with their well behaved children sipping hot chocolate mixing with arty young things. By night the music and crowd are louder and more mature but the atmoshpere still relaxed and friendly. The location of the hotel is great. Only 3-5 minutes easy walk from the main square. Lots of restaurants in the surrounding streets. Near the main sights and museums and only about 8-10 euros from the train station.
If you want to snuggle up for a romantic break then Hotel Navarra is the perfect pace to book. No faults here whatsoever. A leading example for other city break hotels.
Room Tip: Call ahead if you want the main building but honestly I don't think it would make much of a diff...
