“Convenient and Friendly”

The Ibis Centrum is located in a quiet neighborhood on Katelijnestraat, about 600m from the Markt, so it is relatively central. Parking is available in a public car park (Katelijne) for about 9,- EUR per day. The receptionists were friendly and professional without exeception and check-in (as well as check-out) quite fast and efficient. The hotel is just opposite a Novotel (also by Accor), and both frame a quiet courtyard. I liked the Ibis's red brick facade better though, as it was more in keeping with the style of the surrounding houses. The property must have been renovated fairly recently as the rooms had modern flatscreen TVs and updated furniture.

As is generally the case with Ibis, the general design and decor were pretty functional and not very inspired but - as I've said above - all in good working condition and clean. One sad exception was the telephone, which must have seen better times some time in the Eighties but was now a disgusting and grubby affair mercyfully hidden by part of the curtain. A/C seemed to be working ok but was switched to "hot" for the winter. The bathroom was clean in my room; I didn't like the combination of bathtub/shower, which was hard to get into and out of. My travel companions found bloodstains in their bathroom though. No in-rooms safes available but some safes were located at the reception and were individually accessible with two keys (one given to the customer via a rental agreement and one which was held by the receptionists). Not such a bad idea: safetywise it beats the unsafe "safes" usually found in hotel rooms.

Breakfast was a standard buffet thing and cost a not-so-sleek 14,- EUR.

PROs
- location
- friendly service
- safes @ reception
- clean (w/exceptions)
- okay value for money
- firm beds (if you like them)

CONs
- bloodstains in one bathroom
- disgusting in-room telephone
- firm beds (if you don't like them)

“Clean, simple and sufficient”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stopped at the Ibis Brugge Centrum for three nights at the end of January. The hotel is close to the station, about ten minutes walk, although be prepared for everyone to know you're coming if you are dragging your case over the cobbles.

The hotel staff were always very pleasant and spoke fluent English, and when we arrived as a group, having booked 3 doubles and a twin, and been given 4 doubles they were more than obliging swapping rooms for my brother and I to a twin room.

The room itself was very VERY basic which was to be expected however had no chest of drawers and no wardrobe, just a small corner stand with a clothes rail and two shelves (one of which was floor level) to store two persons' clothes.

The bathroom again was very small with the skinniest bathtub every. No way anyone could ever have laid down in it but as we were only for there for 4 days we made do with a shower.

The breakfast was included in our package rate but if you were there on a nightly basis, the breakfast might be a bit high. However, there was lots of choice in the buffet, hot and cold, continental croissants and sausages and scrambled egg, for more of a cooked breakfast feel.

Location wise the hotel was in a good location. On the same street as lots of the shops and 5 minute walk to the centre and two main squares. The Diamond Museum is 300 yards down the street and just through a small street directly opposite the hotel was one of the city's attractions, convent and church.

Hotel is basic but clean and in great location for sight seeing.

“Better than expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Great location and service. Very close to the town centre, loads of great restaurants nearby and within walking distance from the train station. Opposite the Novotel (which I think is the same chain but higher price and they seem to share staff?!)
I stayed with a large group (+50 of us including singles, couples and families) while we toured Bruges on a singing tour.
The breakfast was a buffet style with plenty of good quality food. The bar had a great selection of beers and spirits and the staff were helpful.
Ok the room was basic BUT clean and plenty of space(not a huge amount of hanging space!) and the bathroom and shower were great.

“ok for 1-2 nights, but not more”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Ibis Brugge Centrum is not a bad budget choice fro Brugge. The location is great - literally within a railway station and in walkable distance to the center of majestic Brugge.

The hotel is light, new and clean. BUT the room is very small, even tiny. It is difficult to move around the room!
The shower was cute - changing colors , that looked beautiful in the dark.
In general, ok for 1-2 nights, but not more!

“Pre-Christmas in Brugge”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We checked in with 12 other people at the same time and the staff quickly sorted out everything, by far the fastest check-in I have ever experienced. The room looked like it was straight out of the Ikea showroom floor. It was very comfortable and quiet. Our room did not have a fridge, I'm not sure if that was an option. They have a nice little bar and the breakfast was great! The hotel was within walking distance of all the sites in town. I would certainly stay again.
