My girlfriend coerced me into staying two nights at the picturesque Montnaus instead of three nights in a more functional, central hotel. Don't say it too loudly, but she was absolutely right!
The staff were helpful from start to finish- our every need and query was dealt with quickly (easy enough) and efficiently (much more rare in my experience). We were based in the smaller building in the gardens, where the rooms are probably that bit better value than those in the main building and are ideal for couples. My only regret was that we couldn't make more use of the layout, which is arguably better suited to summer than mid-winter! We were only there for a couple of days, but we had no problems whatsoever with cleanliness or housekeeping.
As for location, it mightn't have been bang in the middle of the city, but Montanus is only a ten minute stroll to Markt and Burg, which I was actually glad for given how busy the centre of Bruges can get in the run up to Christmas.
As I sort of alluded to at the top, Montanus mightn't be the cheapest, but if you want to make your trip to Bruges that little bit more pretty and stress-free, I could hardly recommend it highly enough.
