“Lovely hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in February 2012 - a fantastic time of the year to visit a city that can become so packed with loud American tourists during the summer;) Bruges is an absolutely beautiful city and well worth a visit.

The Grand Hotel Casselbergh was clean, very central and we had a really pleasant stay. We were in the new part of the hotel, and had a beautiful view of the cathedral and rooftops, and the frozen canal that people were walking along:)

Our room was clean and comfortable, with an actual king-size bed, as opposed to two singles pushed together.
The bathroom was clean and new enough to feel pleasant. The shower was only okay though, as there was nowhere to stand in the shower where you weren't directly under the shower head - no big complaint - just irritating.

We had a horrible sleep the first night, as the air-conditioning didn't seem to work and it was far too hot and stuffy. The second night, we opened the window, despite the freezing temperature, and slept like babies. A bit of fresh air can do wonders in bigger hotels with all that stuffy air circulating around the rooms!

Breakfast was good - nothing utterly amazing, just good for a hotel breakfast. The croissants were very fresh and were among the best we've had at a hotel breakfast. We didn't have any hot food, but there were bacon, eggs and sausages, I think.

The lounge area is comfortable and cosy, and we spent about 4 hours here on our last day before our train left and we'd had enough of walking around. No snacks available in the bar, but plenty of drinks.

The staff at the hotel are friendly and helpful, and responded to my many emails before arriving promptly and in a friendly manner. They even left a box of chocolates in our room, I think because I advised them we were staying for my husband's birthday - so nice of them! They were pretty amazing chocolates too, from Roose's:)

We would highly recommend staying here and would happily stay here again if we return to Bruges.

“Comfortable hotel in a fantastic location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Stayed early Feb. Location was superb, communal areas exceptionally clean and comfortable. Breakfast typical buffet style, nothing special. Room was fine but very much in a corporate style with no soul ( we had a room in the new part). Only got 1 coffee sachet each (mean!) and I guess I do not get as excited about L'Occitaine miniatures in the bathrooms other reviewers seem to. There was a box of chocs waiting for us on arrival, we ate a couple and left the rest for the rest of our stay but they disappeared the next day. We reported this to reception but we did not get another. The hotel did feel like a corporate hotel to me rather than a holiday hotel with people having meetings and working on laptops in the lounge. The hotel would also benefit with a small bar menu on offer for people who want light snacks. The staff were all very nice and helpful.

As far as Bruges is concerned it was freezing , grey and miserable and I feel we did not get the best out of our trip. A lot of things were closed so I would not recommend going at this time of year.

We weren't blown away by the Grand Hotel Casselbergh, but we enjoyed our stay. The hotel is located close to the main square. Our room was comfortable. Would recommend!

Checked in for one night with my daughter, and having stayed in Brugge many times decided on this hotel due to good reviews. On arrival brilliant front of house who explained everything. Stunning room immaculately clean with plasma TV. No restaurant for dinner but loads of great places to eat within two minutes walk. Really close to the Market Square (3min walk) stunning Turkish bath/sauna & steam room with complmentary robes. Breakfast next day was beautiful freshly cooked and great array of cooked meats breads cereals fresh juices eggs bacon etc. Brilliant service and beautiful tablelinens etc.
Don't worry just book this hotel it's brilliant. I paid €106 for bed & breakfast worth every cent
