We stayed for three nights in February, during a very cold snap. The canals had frozen, and unfortunately so did one of the water pipes, causing us to be one night without hot water. But it was not their fault, was soon remedied, and apologies duly made.
We were on a eurostar package, and were upgraded to a room on the executive floor. The room was very spacious and nice, with a desk, a large TV, sitting area and good bathroom. The bed was very comfortable (memory foam). We were on the courtyard side of the building, which has plenty of character, but has been modernised quite tastefully. It was quiet - but as noted by others there is a Spar shop immediately opposite the hotel entrance, on a narrow street - and suspect that could be noisy at certain times, but we did not notice anything ourselves.
The breakfasts were indeed terrific - a huge array of pastries, breads, croissants, home made jams, cheeses, hams, cooked selection, fresh fruit, yogurts - really wonderful. And the staff were in the main very helpful - including the young man on reception one night who arrived armed with a screwdriver to mend the bedside light fitment!
The position is good - five minutes (if that) from some of the most beautiful canal views, stunning architecture, and great restaurants and bars. The staff were very helpful, pointing out places to visit, and giving us good recommendations for dinner. There is no food in the hotel, apart from breakfast.
Negatives are relatively niggly - the bedside light - which was not mended properly while we were there - but that hardly spoiled our stay. And the net curtains in the room were not very clean ( Curtains are v. necessary as there are rooms in a kind of annexe at the rear, accessed by metal stairway from the courtyard...the landing is outside the window).
Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel. We had Room 112, and it was very nice. We did not see dooms...
