“Great location!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

This hotel is pretty much bang in the middle of the town and is a great base for exploring the sights.

The staff are all very friendly, the room we had was very spaceous with a suitably large TV and an equally large bathroom.

The whole hotel is very tidy and looks as though it has recently been decorated giving a generall overall feel of quality. The beds are large and comfortable with plenty of pillows and we did find the tea & coffee equipment in the wardrobe. Probably only something that the English make regular use of!

The only slight niggles that I have given the price is that you should probably take some earplugs. The sound seems to travel through the door from the corridors more that I would expect and despite being on a dead end road the noise from the lorries delivering to the Spar across the road could have the abliity to wake you up despite the double glazing. Also the cost for the wi-fi is €5 per hour - seems that the more expensive the hotel, the more they charge for internet access. If you try some of the different wi-fi networks there i found a FON hotspot that was €8 (I think) for 24 hours and free for many BT broadband cusomers.

Didn't get chance to try the breakfast but it would have to be pretty good for €20!

As previously mentioned by others there is no car park at the hotel but there is a large underground public car park literally just around the corner that is open 24/7 at a cost of €10 per day. I left the car there for htree days and wasn't too bothered at all.

Room Tip: Expect that courtyard rooms would be quieter

“Awesome Breakfast, Great Staff...”

ok, so I will just start with the things I didn't like:
They charge for wifi... that should be free. Even at a coffee shop its free.
Lights in the room need work.
We had what is considered one of the best rooms, but the large bed was essentially two twins pushed together with a queen sized sheet over it.
We showed up without reservations, and the room was missing a couple of amenities....

That said,we did show up late without reservations and they took very good care of us. it was a beautiful room, clean and spacious.
The young concierges both at night and in the day were extremely helpful and took good care of us.
The night desk man was especially gracious.
The Breakfast is to die for. Unbelievably delicious. Perhaps the best food I ate in my whole time in Belgium and France. Their Chef can cook...

Room Tip: we stayed in room #114. It was excellent.

We stayed at the De Flandre during our New Year visit to Ghent. It's central location was ideal for sightseeing, shopping and locating restaurants. 2 excellent car parks only 200/300
yards away. Our room in the courtyard was very clean, with a good sized bathroom. The floors are tiled and therefore rather cold [ and noisy ] at this time of year. Also ,as with many hotels in Europe, there was no tea/coffee making facility. Overall a very good hotel in a wonderful city, well worth another visit in the summer!!!!

Room Tip: Courtyard rooms are quiet.

“Stylish”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. The hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. The hotel is located in the old city not far from the canal and the historical sights. The rooms were elegant and newly renovated. We had a room towards the courtyard and it was very silent.
The breakfastroom was very stylish and the breakfast was fantastic both visually and gastronomically. Absolutely nothing to complain about.
We can absolutely recommend this hotel.

“A wonderful little hotel”

My husband and I thorougly enjoyed our 4 night stay at this charming and well-situated hotel. We were there for a vacation and to meet our friends. We stayed in a courtyard room, which was quiet, spacious and very clean. In addition to the existing reviews, I would add that this hotel has many more pluses than minuses. To start with the positives: location is ideal (quiet, yet 2 minutes from Grasslei); the hotel is beautifully decorated on the inside with a nice mixture of the old and the modern; the breakfast buffet is fabulous (more on this in a minute); and the hotel staff seems very committed to ensuring a pleasant visit for all guests. The staff seems generally "psyched" to be working there. Of particular note is the amazing breakfasr buffet (which was included in our room price). We had the opportunity to talk to Anneck, who is the person responsible for this amazing spread. She spoke with pride and enthusiasm about how she has developed and improved the offerings. She tries to account for all the different preferences of the guests, and to this end, has provided an amazing choice of Belgian cheeses, fresh pastries, breads, organic cereals, fresh fruit, dried fruit, nuts cooked eggs and bacon, deli meats and yummy jams.
I have a few suggestions. The water pressure in the shower was low. A night light in the bathroom would be helpful because the floors are very dark. I would have appreciated a couple of rugs on the floor so I could stretch more easily in the morning. On the other hand, the bed was very comfortable, good reading lights and fabulous cosmetics in the bathroom.
Overall, I would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel. My rating is a 4++ and I have a feeling that with the present management it will soon be a 5.

Room Tip: The courtryard rooms are very quiet.
